Cash coniributions to the families in the form of necessities and payments of rent totaled $7.612 for the month, a large increase over the same period ‘of Iast year, when $5,513 was used for the material needs of families. Unemployment, constituted a factor thus presented to workers. Sickness or physical disabilities scored 31 per cent in the analysis of the causes of dependency; indebtedness, 27 per cent: non-support, 18.4 per cent ing. 16.7 per cent, and family desertion, 13.7 per cent. This_cash relief, however. was only part of the work done by the staff of 13 trained social workers and by voluntecr visitors.
