PREACHER WHO WED KRESGES ABSOLVED - Methodist Conference Holds £+ Church Laws Violated S Unintentionally. [ B the Associated Press. ¥ PHILADELPHIA, March 14.—After a * discussion behind closed doors, the Phil- adelphia Methodist Episcopal Confer- ence yesterday decided that the Rev. B. C. Dahms unintentionally had violated the discipline of the church when he + performed the ceremony last October at the marriage of Sebastian S. Kresge, chain store owner, and Mrs. Clara K. Swain. The minister made apology for hav- ing married the couple, it was announc- ed, and the conference recommended that the charges against him be dis- missed. At the same time it “regretted the unintentional violation of the church discipline.” Dr. Dahms is pastor of the Mountain ' Wiew Church, in the Pocono Mountains, near Stroudsburg, Pa. Mrs. Swain, he said, was & member of his church at the time he assumed the pastorate two years ago. The chain store magnate had been divorced twice and Mrs. Swain once, and their marriage was brought ‘to the at- tention of the conference because it was alleged to have violated Methodist dis- cipline. The law of the church, as revised 8t the last General Conference, says: “No divorce, except for adultery or its equivalent, shall be regarded by the church as lawful, and no minister shall solemnize marriage in any case where there is a divorced wife or husband liv- ing: but this rule shall not be applied to the innocent party to a divorce for the cause of adultery nor to divorced parties seeking to be reunited in mar- riage.” COMMISSION ASKS HELP WITH HEALTH ORDINANCE Montgomery County Board Re- quests Physician’s Co-operation on Sanitary Suburban Question.
