COPELAND URGES PARTY SOLIDARITY Democrats Must Drop Sec- tional and Religious Differ- ences, Senator Says. By the Associated Press KANSAS CITY, Mo, June 11.— Urging reoragnization of “‘a_demoral- ized Democracy,” Senator Royal S. Copeland of New York declared here last night that the party could never win until it put aside its “sectional, occupational and religious differences.” Speaking before the Women's Jeffer son Democratic Club, Senator Cope- land scored the record of the New York convention last Summer and predicted that it would take years to efface from the minds of the American people the impression gained by “the foolhardy procedure of that terrible convention.” The New York Senator called upon Democrats everywhere to put aside all thought of candidates and to work for party reorganization. It is a case now, he asserted, of “all for one and one for all” if the party is to be made again the force “for the preservation of our liberties and the ad of civilization that it once wi Too Many “Types.” ‘We have a Southern Democ: Western Democracy and an E Democracy,” he said. ‘“We ha rural Democracy and a labor Democ: racy. We have an agricultural Democracy and an_industrial Democ- racy. racy and a Catholic Democracy. “So long as we have all these branches and divisions, we are not a | Democratic party at all. We can never be a real until we submit within the party to an acceptance by the whole group of its fundamentals. ‘As I see it, there can be no success for us until we forget the names of men and think only of what the party of the people can do to better the conditions of men and women, and doing this, we support the determina- tion of our organized committees and conventions with unswerving fidelity.’ G s 2 GOVERNMENT TO DEFEND SUIT FOR SEAL SEIZURES Bkins and Vessels Captured Off Alaska From 1886-96 Subject of Litigation. Sealskins and vessels seized by ihe Government between 1886 and 1396 beyond the three-mile limit of Alaska will be the subject of litigation in the United States District Court for Northern California shortly, when their owners ask the Government for reimbursement. The Department of Justice is preparing evidence in the cases. Vessels were seized by the Navy and Coast Guard boats. Proceedings were brought under an act of Congress passed last October permitting such suits to be filed in the California courts within two years. Hunting of seal and other fur-bearing animals was prohibited -between 1885 and 1896 within the three-mile limit of Alaska, and the plaintiffs contend their boats and cargoes were not sub- ject to that ban when seized. In preparing for the litigation, of- ficials of the department are studying old files of the Bureau of Fisheries and other data to determine the value of skins during that period, and ihe mmount of prospective catches, claims for which also figure in the ‘We have a Protestant Democ- | Democratic party | Service Her Secret |MINISTER’S SPEECH Of Long Life Says Woman Ex-Senator Has Found Mind’s Elixir of Youth, Mrs. Felton Declares. | By the Associated P Service Mrs. Re- a Latimer Felton, former United ates Senator from Georgia, de- clared here yesterday at a celebra- tion in honor of her 90th birthday.
