By the Associated Press NEW YORK, January 24—Mixed price movements took place in to- day's stock market, reflecting the readjustment of speculative accounts over the week end. The session lasted only 76 minutes, the opening being delayed 45 minutes in order to permit the members and employes of the exchange to view the total eclipse of the sun. Further accumulation of the ofl shares reflected the extension of gas- oline and crude ofl prices. Pacific Ou was the most active feature, clos- ing a point higher at §0%. Barns- dall B., Shell Transport and Atlantic Refining also closed a point or more higher, while most of the others im- proved fractionally. Low-priced rally also displayed a strong tone, “Katy” preferred touch- ing the highest price since the re- organization of the road at 1%, and then easing to 81% for a net gain of 1% on the day. Chicago & Alton preferred moved up 1% to 16%. Kansas City Southern also was bought at steadily advancing prices, closing 1% points higher at 38%. United States Steel fluctuated within a range of % of a point, closing unchanged at 128%. The other members of the so-called “big four"—American Can, Baldwin and Studebaker—showed nominal reces- sions. American Woolen Weak. Further weakness cropped out in the American Woolen issues in re- flection of the growing anxlety over the preferred dividend. The common stock was hammeréd down to 52% and then rallied to 54%. off T, and the preferred closed 23 points lower at 911, Motors also were inclined to sell off when pressure was applied. Nash closed more than a point lower, at 246%, and Chandler dropped a point and then recovered most of its loss. Other outstanding heavy spots were American Agricultural Chemical pre- ferred, Brooklyn Edison, Burns Brothers B, du Pont, Famous Players, General Electric, Hartman Corpor: tion, Savage Arms, Western Union, Woolworth and Worthington Pump, all off from one to two points. NEW YORK, January 24.—The Le- high Valley Railroad almost doubled its net operating fncome in 1924, the total reaching $11,391,549, compared with $6,573,120 in 1923. Gross rev- enues showed a gain of about $440,- 000, g0 $76,374,805. A certificate of incorporation for the recently organized American Car and Foundry Securities Corporation was filed in Dover, Del., today, giving capltalization of 100,000 shares of no par value stock, all of which will be owned by the American Car and Foun- dry Co. The new company will han- dle American Car and Foundry's large investments. The pamphlet report of the Inde- pendent Oil and Gas Co. for 1924 shows net income of $1,814,652 after ex- penses, dry holes and expired leases. After deducting $1,160,636 for de- preciation and depletion the balance fs equal to $1.45 a share on the no par value stock outstanding. Nickel Plate’s Report. Although 1924 gross revenue of the New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad (Nickel Plate) fell 33,474,944 under that of 1923, net income of $5,869,246 was only $462,092 less than in the year before and was equal to $13.92 a share on the common stock after meeting preferred dividends and first mortgage sinking fund require- ments. The movement in South Penn stock is attributed in certain quart to accumulation in anticipation of ar advance in Pennsylvania Crude to the $4 level, possible resumption of divi- dens being expected to follow hig crude prices. NEW YORK, January 24.—Satisfac- tory orders for cotton blankets and light-weight flannels for the Fall sea- son were being received today. Some lines have been sold ahead to Sep- tember. Domestics moved in mod- erate-sized lots, with prices steady. Gray goods were quiet. Raw silk ad- vanced a little in the local markets and free sales were reported on_the bourse at Yokohama. Traders here were resisting advances. Burlaps were firmer and more future delivery buying was reported. An advance of 5 per cent was announced in a line of fine dress goods for the Spring. COTTON VALUES RALLY. Trade Buying and Covering Lift Saturday Market. NEW YORK, January 24.—Further liquidation was absorbed on a com- paratively slight additional decHne in the cotton market early today, fol- lowed by rallles on trade buying and covering. May sold up from 23.45 to 23.75 and closed at 23.61, compared with 2350 at Friday's close. The general market closed steady at met advances of 10 to 13 points. Sales of print cloths in the Fall River market for the week were of- timated at about 50,000 pleces. The amount of cotton on shipboard awaiting clearance at the close of business yesterday was estimated at 145,869 bales, against 98,459 last year. These figures were regarded as point- ing to continued full exports for the balance of the month, but it is re- ported that exporters recently have been buying less freely In the month, and there has probably been a little selling here on expectations that the export movement would taper off after the end of January.
