C—8 APPRAISAL STUDY ATTRAGTING MANY Real Estate Institute and Columbia U. Plan to Accommodate 100. Advance registrations are already being made for the case-study courses in real estate appraisal announced by Columbia University and the Amer- ican Institute of Real Estate Apprais- ers. Inquiries are coming in from men engaged in real estate appraisal throughout the Eastern part of the United States who are prospective students. Only 100 students can be accommodated. ‘The courses, to be given under the Joint sponsorship of the institute and the School of Business of Columbia University, will be presented in two 2-week terms, June 7 to June 19 and June 21 to July 3, 1937 Paralleling the courses given for the last two Summers by the institute in co-operation with the School of Busi= ness of the University of Chicago, course 1 offers a general groundwork | in fundamental principles and proper procedure in the appraisal of resi- dential properties and course 2 offers training in the appraisal of typical | small-income properties Comprehensive Material. Comprehensive text material has been developed for use exclusively in these case-study courses, based upon outlines developed by the Education and Research Committee of the Amer- ican Institute of Real Estate Apprais- | ers. The entire program of texts and | lectures ties in with a master syllabus | of appraisal work that embraces all phases of regl estate appraisal prac- tice and technique. To learn to do by doing, each stu- dent, under the personal direction of & member of the faculty, will make a detailed and thorough appraisal of an actual real estate property, in one case of single-family homes and small-flat building properties; in the other, of typical small-apartment properties and | typical retail business properties. | The properties selected for these appraisals will cover balanced im- provements, over-improvements, un- der-improvements and misplaced im- provements.
