[ renwe | @he Foening Stap WITH SUNDAY MORNING EDITION SILVER STAR HOME INBARNABY WOODS 1S JEFFERSON TYPE Architecture of Dwelling Inspired by Work of Virginian. PERIOD OF INSPECTION TO OPEN TOMORROW House Located at 6617 Thirty- second Place Designed Along Classic Lines. The architecture of Thomas Jef- ferson, so much in public attention at the present time, furnishes the in- spiration for a new Silver Star Home which will be opened tomorrow at 6617 Thirty-second place, Barnaby Woods. The house will be on display for 30 days under auspices of The Star. Designed along classic lines, the house lends itself well to a setting in the beautiful wooded section of East Chevy Chase. It was built by the Barnaby Woods Development Co., of which Edward R. Carr is president. The architect, Louis R. Moss, has de- signed & number of homes which re- ceived Silver Star awards in recent years. Appropriately, the house has been furnished in antiques, and most of the pieces are of eighteenth century design. Wall paper, draperies and rugs blend attractively, and harmon- ire perfectly with the interior charm of the structure. Early American’ antiques appropriate to the Jefferson period were furnished and arranged by Barah Wilioughby Moody of Bethesda, and her sister, Mrs. Willoughby Town- eend of Catonsville, Md. Committee Inspects Home. After a thorough inspection the Sil- ver Star Homes Committee, composed of five housing experts, approved the Barnaby Woods house for sponsorship by The Star. The committee examined construction work, architecture, in- terior plan, setting, landscaping and the value of the house before indors- ing it for The Star award, The Star committee is headed by James B. Taylor of the Federal Hous- ing Administration as chairman. Other members include Irwin S.-Por- ter, architect, and former president | of the Washington Chapter, American Institute of Architect; Edwin H. Rasengarten, builder, and member of the firm of Davis, Wick & Rosen- garten; John Nolen, jr., director of planning for the National Capital Park and Planning Commission, and ‘Thomas Sandoz, serving for his father, Comdr. F. L. Sandoz, president of the ‘Washington Real Estate Board. While the house has a center entrance hall, it is not the usual type. The atairway winds up from the side and toward the front hall instead of going straight 'up to & rear landing. The living room and dining room have been placed to the rear of the house overlooking a beaytifully wooded gar- den. A den and lavatory may be sntered from the hall on the right, while on the left, a new note in mod- orn planning has been introduced with (Continued on Page C-2.) N. B. C. Presenting 1937 HOME BUYER EXERCISING CARE Showy Equipment Does Not Dazzle Purchaser, Builder. The 1937 home buyer is buying carefully with an eye to real value and substantial construction, says H. L. Hannum of Hannum & Turner, Inc, Hyattsville home builders. | “In spite of the fact that the mod- | ern home must have every conven- jence for comfortable living and be completely finished, even to copper screens and other refinements, the more showy items of equipment do not dazzle the average buyer enough to make him forget to check up on how well the home is built,” Hannum states. “We find that prospective purchasers look over our houses and go away. Soon they are back with some relative or friend *who knows how to check up on the substantial points of house building.
