CHICAGO, December 17.—The Re- eonstruction Finance Corp. lost yester- day an attempt to collect $1,250,000 interest on the $90,000,000 “Dawes Joan.” Its request was denied by Fed- | #ral Judge James H. Wilkerson. Filing of the interest suit November | 24 followed a ruling November 7 by Judge Wilkerson that Illinois stock- holders of the defunct Central Repub- lic Bank & Trust Co. must pay $12,- 500,000 toward the deficiency on re- payment of the loan. The amount represented the value of the bank’; stock held by the stockholders, who were liable under the Illinois double liability law. Then counsel for the R. F. C. de- manded 5 per cent interest on the $12,500.000 for each of the two vears during which trial of the case was in progress, interest at a similar rate on the original loan was included in the estimate of deficiency on the repay- ment of the loan “The court is of the opinion,” Judge Wilkerson ruled vesterday, “and finds that the collection of this interest is governed by authoritative decrees and that the interest claimed by the plain- tiff 1= not allowable by Illinois law. PIaintiff's request is denied.” Attorneys for several groups of the stockholders have announced they in- | tend to appeal the liability decision to | the United States Supreme Court. The R. F. C. lent the $90,000,000 tn the Central Republic Bank, of which == Gen. Charles G. Dawes, former Vice President, was chairman, during the banking crisis in 1932. Dawes had been chairman of the R. F. C. until 15 days before the loan was made. BOMB PLOTS LAID TO MINERS’ GROUP Forty-One Accused of Conspiring to Wreck Trains in Three Federal Indictments. B the Associated Press.
