SWARTWOUT EXPIRES AT HOME Heart Attack Fatal to Well Known Homeopathic Physician. Dr. Frank A. Swartwout, 69, prom- inent homeopathic physician, died early today after a heart attack at his home, 12 Logan circle. Dr. Swartwout had practiced here more than 42 years and was active in & num- ber of organiza- tions. He was past president of the American In- stitute of Home- opathy, serving about six years ago, and at the time of his death was & member of the Board of Di- rectors. He also had served several terms as president of the Washington Homeopathic Society and as chairman of its Advisory Board and for six years was secretary-treas- urer of the Southern Homeopathic Medical Society. He belonged to the staff of Homeopathic Hospital. Dr. Swartwout was a life member of the Sons of the American Revolu- tion and belonged to the Soctety of Colonial Wars. Long active in church work, he was senior deacon of Calvary Baptist Church, of which he became a deacon some 40 years ago. He also had taught Sunday school there for many years. General Had 41-Year Brig. Gen. Patrick W. Guiney, as- sistant quartermaster general of the Army, died today in Walter Reed Hos- pital after a long illness. He had suffered from & heart ailment which resulted in his being taken to Walter Reed four months ago. Gen. Guiney had 41 years’ Army service, though he was only 59. He held decorations for gallantry in the Boxer Expedition in China, in the campeign to quell the Philippine In- surrection and in the World War. Born in Fall River, Mass., February 10, 1877, Gen. Guiney began his mili- tary career when appointed to the Military Academy from Massachusetts on June 19, 1895. Served in Boxer Uprising. served with the Legation Guards in Peklnx during the Boxer uprising, participating in the capture of Peking on August 14, 1900, in the capture of the Imperial Palace the following day and in the battle south of Peking in November of that year. Soon after- ward, he was promoted to first lieu- tenant and in May, 1001, was sent to the Philippines. With the 6ih Cavalry he engaged in active operations against Gen. Belar- mino until his surrender on July 4, 1901, and against Gen. Malvar to February 28, 1902. He returned to the United States in September, 1903. serving at various Army posts until 1906, when, as a captain, he returned to the Philippines for two additional years of duty. Returning in 1908, he saw long service in the Southwestern United States on cavalry and quartermaster assignments. ‘Went to France in 1918. He went to France in May, 1918, as division quartermaster of the 78th Di- | vision. serving with this division until | just before the armistice, when he went to the Staff School at Langres, Prance. He participated in the 8t Mihiel offensive and was cited by Gen. John J. Pershing for meritorious service. He rose to the temporary rank of colonel during the World War, reverting to permanent rank of major after the war. He became a lieutenant colonel in the Regular Army in 1920. a colonel on June 21, 1921, and was appointed assistant to the quartermaster general, with the rank of origadier general, September 19, 1933. He served as chief of the construction division of the office of the quartermaster general. Gen. Guiney is survived by his widow, Mrs. Margaret B. Guiney, who lives in the Kennedy-Warren Apartments. RICHARD B. LATIMER, 56, DEAD AT BELTSVILLE Government Electrician Had Been in I11 Health for Three Years. Richard B. Latimer, 56, died yes- terday at his residence at Beltsville, Md. He had been in ill health for three years. Funeral services, super- vised by the Mount Hermon Masonic Lodge of Hyattsville, of which Mr. Latimer was a member, will be held tomorrow at 11 am. at 8t. John's P. E. Church, Beltsville, with burial in the graveyard beside the church. Mr. Latimer, an electrician in the Government service, is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clara Robinson Latimer; a son, Richard B. Latimer, jr, and four brothers and a sister. He was born in Piscataway, Prince Georges County, Md., and moved to Hyattsville many years ago.
