- CITTZENS APPROVE | DIAGNOSTIC UNITS Brookland Association for Immediate Erection, Ruh- | land’s Plan. The Brookland Citizens' Assogiation last night approved a plan conceived by Health Officer H. C. Ruhland for the immediate erection of diagnostic centers for treatment of the more prevalent diseases after Dr. George K. Ellis had informed the group that such institutions would prove invalu- able in reducing tuberculosis and so- elal diseases in the District. Dr. Ellis stated that while the Com~ missioners had approved the construc- tion of at least one health center, several were needed in the city if a successful fight against disease were to be waged. Motions condemning the proposed operation of an abattoir in Benning and recommending that the office of people’s counsel be retained and filled s soon as possible were adopted. New members received into the as- + sociation were Roscoe F. Woolard and Bush, administrative princi- | Grace pal of the Brookland, Crosby Noyes and Bunker Hill Schools. Miss Bush in a short talk, in which she advo- cated greater centralization of schools, answered several questions concern- ing educational problems in Brook- land. In answer to a request that some- thing be done about the smoke prob- lem in that vicinity, H. K. Kugel, smoke regulation engineer, told the body most of the smoke in Washing- ton resulted from antiquated heating equipment, originally manufactured for consumption of anthracite coal but at present used to burn soft coal, and that the only real remedy for, the nuisance was to replace all such equipment with modern, luwmtic heating plants. - Missing Money in Shirt.
