" B8 ADMR REYNOLDS " DIES IN HOSPITAL Naval Officer Had Distin- guished Career, Includ- ing Duty Here. Rear Admiral Alfred Reynolds, 83, V. 8. N, retired, who had a long and « distinguished career as a naval officer, including important duty here, died yesterday in Naval Hospital. He had been ill about three months. Admiral Reynolds was president of the Naval Examining and Retiring Boards here from 1913 to 1915. He was retired in 1915, but was recalled to active duty during the World War and served as commandant of the naval training station at Gulfport, Miss., after establishing the station. He was again placed on the retired list following the war and since had spent the greater part of his time at Gulfport. He came here to enter the hospital. He was the brother of Mrs. Edward E. Hayden, 2820 N street. Besides his sister, he is survived by his sec- ond wife, Mrs. Josephine LeCand Rey- nolds, to whom he was married in October, 1921; a son, Col. John N. Reynolds, U. S. A, now stationed in Boston; a daughter, Mrs. William T. Truxton, Waterbury, Conn., and five grandchildren. The son and daughter are children by the first wife, formerly Louise 8. He was graduated from the Naval- Academy in 1873 and was promoted: through the various grades until he reached the rank of rear admiral in July, 1911, He served on the Swatara, 1888-91, and commanded an expedition to Seoul Corea, to protect the United States Minister and foreigners. Dur- iny the Spanish-American War, he was commander of the Massawit. Subsequently, he was-ordnance officer at the Navy Yard, League Island, Pa. In August, 1912, Admiral Reynolds was appointed by President Taft to accompany the Secretary of State as naval representative to the funeral of the Emperor of Japan. In 1912-13, he was in command of the Pacific Reserve Fleet. He was a member of the Army and Navy Club here. Burial will be in Arlington Na- tional Cemetery.
