‘HE SHOWED 'EM. T TENTH street and Constitu- tion avenue, just in front of the National Museum, there is an awkward traffic light— for pedestrians. Their only chance of getting across Constitution avenue is to wait for the green light which per- mits traffic to turn out of Tenth street. The very agile sometimes are able to make the crossing during rush hours, while the elderly wait help- lessly. The other morning a car stalled just after turning right from ' Tenth street, thus piling up trafiic and mak- ing any foot crossing virtuslly impos- sible. A 300-pound gentleman with &n umbrella, already late for work, lost his patience altogether. Delib- erately he walked up to the stalled car, climbed on the hood by way of the fender before the astonished driver realized what was happening, jumped up and down with his full weight three times on the hood, and then hopped down on the other side and made his way across the street. “I'll show 'em,” he was muttering 85 he strode away to the accompani- ment of tooting horns. * ok ok * THERE SHAN'T BE LIGHT.
