. H. BARRINGER, WAR FIGURE, DIES Former Foreign Service Of- ficer Served Under Two Fags. George H. Barringer, 46, former for- elgn service officer who served under two flags during the World War, died Tuesday at Mount Alto Hospital after & long illness. He had been under treatment at the hospital since Feb- ruary, 1934, when he was brought here from Dublin, Ireland, after a severe heart attack. Funeral services were to be held at 8 pm. today at the Fort Myer Chapel, followed by burial in Arlington Na- tional Cemetery. Mr. Baringer, & native of North Carolina, was educated at the Uni- wversity of Virginia, where his father, Dr. Paul P. Barringer, formerly was chairman of the faculty. He accepted a commission in the British army in China, devoting his time to transporting Chinese to France to serve in the British Expedi- tionary Labor Corps. After the war he entered the Foreign Service and in 15 years served at various times in lre-‘ land, England, Newfoundland and Canada. His wife, Mrs, Constance L. Edwin Charles Brandenburg, out- standing civic leader and utilities law- yer in Washington for 40 years, died yesterday at his home, Montrose, on the Rockville pike, after a long {ll- ness. He was 70 years old and a na- tive of the District. Until failing health forced his re- tirement two years ago, Mr. Branden- burg was actively engaged in the movement for national representation in the District. As chairman of a subcommittee of the Citizens’ Joint Comimttee on National Representa- tion, he presented arguments at sev- eral hearings before Senate and House Committees for legislation to give representation to the District. A leader in business affairs, he was president of the Board of Trade for three years and its general counsel and director for many years. He also held directorships in the Washington Rail- way & Electric Co., the Capital Tran- sit Co., the Potomac Electric Power ington when Mr. Barringer left the Foreign Service last year. They have been living at 2844 Wisconsin avenue. He was the brother of Thomas Bar- ringer of Washington and Mrs. Joseph I. Weller of Alexandria, Va. Other survivors include his parents, three brothers and a sister. Lawyer Dies EDWIN C. BRANDENBURG. Co. and several other optstanding Washington business firms. Educated in D. C. Schools. Mr. Brandenburg was the son of the late Gertrude E. Brandenburg and the late Frederick W. Brandenburg, prom- inent Washington merchant. Educated in the District public schools and at Columbian College, now George Wash- ington University, he was admitted to the bar after receiving the degrees of LL. B. and LL. M. in 1890. He pre- viously had served in the Signal Corps of the Army, being detailed to the Weather Bureau at St. Paul, Minn, where he was in charge of the State weather service. Brandenburg began his career as's special atlorney in the Department of Justice, in charge of cases before the Court of Claims. He resigned in 1905 to enter private law practice, and soon became one of the Capital’s leading utilities lawyers. For many years he was professor of Federal procedure snd procedure in bankruptcy and insolvency at George Washington University. He held an emeritus professorship in law in honor of his years of service and his scholarship as-the author of sev- eral legal texts. He wrote “Cther People’s Money,” “Business a Profes- sion,” “Digest of Bankruptcy Deci- sions,” “Brandenburg on Bankruptcy” and numerous other articles in legal reviews. National Bank Director. Besides his directorships in the Board of Trade and the railway and electric companies here, Mr. Branden- burg was general counsel, director and trust officer of the National Bank of Washington, a vice president and general counsel of the Norfolk & Washington Steamboat Co., director and general counsel for the Mutual Fire Insurance Co. of Washington and an officer of the Washington Audito- rium. He was affiliated with Hiram Lodge, No. 10, of the Masonic order, of which he was past master. He was a charter member of the Society of Natives and & member of the Association of Old- est Inhabitants and of Phi Delta Phi, legal fraternity. His law firm was Brandenburg & Brandenburg. Surviving are his widow, the former Emma B. Goodacre, whom Mr. Bran- denburg married in 1891; a son, M. F. B. Brandenburg; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Bou and Mrs. Ruth McCarty, and two brothers, Dr. Wilbur H. R. Brandenburg and Clarence A. Bran- denburg.
