Baltimore Markets Special Dispatch to The Star. BALTIMORE, Md, October 19.— Due to generally light receipts from all sections the egg market holds steady under a good demand with val- ues on large hennery whites and cur- rent receipts showing a slight in= crease. Careful grading and prompt ship- ments are necessary, however, to com- mand top values on current receipts as Southern stock is selling 2 to 3 cents lower than native and nearby eggs. The market closed today at 37 to 38 cents a dozen for large whites, 33 to 35 for medium and 31 to 32 for cur- rent receipts. Poultry Prices Ease, Market for both young broiling chickens and old hens shows slight declines, the latter due principally to the end of the Jewish holidays and only broilers weighing around 2!z pounds attract attention at 20 to 23 for Rocks and 18 to 22 for mixed coloreds, with Leghorns selling mostly 18 to 20. Old hens generally show a decline of a cent or two a pound at 21 to 23 for Rocks, 16 to 22 for mixed colored and 14 to 17 for Leghorns. Old roosters, under light receipts, are holding steady at last week's lev- els of 13 and 14. Old ducks in better demand and values show a slight im- provement at 16 to 18. ‘Turkeys made their first appearance of the season on the market this week with young hens and gobblers selling to advantage at 27 and 28 cents, with guinea fowl unchanged from last week and in good demand at 40 each for birds weighing 11, pounds and over. Market for white potatoes holds steady with native and nearby round ‘| whites selling generally 1.05 to 1.15 per 100-pound sacks, but mixed un- graded will not bring over 90 to 1.00. Sweet potatoes, increasing in receipt and as a result values show a decline at 50 to 55 per ‘bushel for Eastern Shore Maryland and Virginia stock and 35 to 45 for mixed, ungraded, with nearby Jersey bringing 25 to 35 ham- per. Truck Receipts Light. Native and nearby garden truck in light receipt and under a good de- mand values generally show an in- crease at following quotations: | bushel; beets, 1.25 to 2.00 hundred; | carrots, 200 to 3.00 hundred; lima | beans, best, 225 to 2.75 bushel with | poorer selling mostly 1.25 to 2.00: ‘p!ppers‘ 20 to 35 hamper; pumpkins, | 3.00 to 8.00 hundred; spinach, 25 to | 35 hamper and 25 to 50 bushel; toma- | toes, 40 to 60 hamper, for best ripe, with poorer selling mostly 15 to 30. The live stock market on the wharves rules easy and values show sharp declines on most lines with only first quality stock attracting attention at the following quotations: Steers, 6a8 per pound, common, 41;a5; heifers, 4a6; cows, 4a5; cutters, 3a4; bulls, 4a5'; calves, 9'5a10%3; common and medium, 5a8; lambs, good to choice, 8%a9; common to medium, 5%,a7%; hogs, good to choice, 11a15%; heavyweights, 11a1134; pack- ing sows, 9%a10. Closing gnnn quotations: Wheat— No. 2, red, Winter, garlicky, spot, domestic, 99%; October delivery, 99%. | Corn—No. 2, yellow, domestic, 96; | cob corn, 4.50 nominal. NEW YORK, October 19.—Cotton was lower today under the inéreased hedging which supplied a fairly active demand from the trade and sent the price of December down to 10.83. Closing quotations were around the lowest of the day, 3 to 13 points off. Steady Liverpool cables were offset by the more favorable European poli- tical news and the appearance of heavy hedging orders from the South which kept up throughout the session. January and later deliveries were easy, showing net declines of 10 to 13 | points at the close, while October and December were 3 to 6 points net lower. The amount of cotton on shipboard awaiting clearance at the end of the week was estimated at 144,000 bales, Stringless green beans, 1.75 to 2.75 | THE SUNDAY STAR, WASHINGTON, D.
