ARMISTICE BALL PLANS COMPLETE rs. Claude A. Swanson Will 3e Honorary Chairman of V. F. W. Committee. The fifteenth annual Armistice day ball' of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the District of Columbia will be held on the evening of November 11 at the Willard Hotel. Mrs. Claude A. Swanson, wife of the Secretary of the Navy, will be honorary chairman of the Ball Committee and President and Mrs. Roosevelt will head the list of patrons and patronesses. The chairman of the general com- mittee in charge of arrangements is David B. Herman, department junior vice commander of the veterans' or- ganization. Assisting him are Deputy Comdr. Edward K. Inman, Deputy Senior Vice Comdr. Stanley, Dr. Har- mon. Deputy Quartermaster Walter P. Boehm, Chief of Staff Col. Harry Coope and Past Deputy Comdrs. George J. Neuner, Oscar W. Hollings- worth and Nathan D. Golden. Mrs. Clay Keene Miller, president of the District of Columbia Depart- ment Ladies’ Auxiliary, will be vice chairman, representing the auxiliaries. Chairman Herman has appointed the following chairmen of the sub- committees: Dr. A. Victor Cercell, box and ticket distribution; Past Deputy Comdr. Charles B. Jennings, liaison; Past Deputy Comdr. Daniel E. Campbell, distinguished guests; William M. Barge, decorations; Philip Belt, printing, and Walker H. Colston, entertainment. Nearly 1,000 Cases Not Recorded, Doctor Says. Nearly 1,000 cases of pneumonia failed to be reported to the District Health Department last year, accord- ing to Dr. Harry J. Dowling, a member of the District of Columbia Medical Bociety. . Dr. Dowling estimated 2,200 pneu- monia cases here during the year, in the course of a lecture Wednesday night before the medical society. The reason for the smaller number of cases reported by the Health Depart- ment, he said, is because many physi- cians do not report all their milder cases of pneumonia, as required by law. He did not think, however, that the mortality rate from pneumonia was greater in Washington than the Health Department reported.
