From + % were = the outset, Chicago wheat prices fluctuated narvously within a narrow range. Buying for mil helped to absorb hedges and was a | factor in causing frequent rallies. The chief underlying source of market support, however, was knowledge that in contrast with large chances of a sensational crop disaster from drought in Argentina this season, Argentina last year had furnished 527,000,000 bushels of wheat to importing coun- tires. With the Argentine wheat export surplus from the 1935 crop almost certain to be light, it was asserted Eu- | | ropean importers were showing un- mistakable signs of uneasiness. For example, the Rotterdam wheat mar- ket today closed 17.-2% cents up. | On the other hand, there was a pro- ! nounced absence today of the heavy commission house obuying that yester- : | day gave the Chicago market a sharp sudden upturn. Favorable weather for the new corn crop had a bearish effect on the corn | market. Oats were relatively firm owing to inferior quality of current | receipts. Provisions responded to estimates that Chicago stocks of lard had shrunk 2,000,000 pounds during the past fortnight. Grain range at principal markets today: September rhut— Chicago____ Minneapolis .
