PAVILION COLLAPSE 1S LAID T0 CROWD Structure Causing Injuries to 200 Pennsylvanians Held Overloaded. By the Associated Press. NANTICOKE, Pa, July 1—The State’s preliminary investigation of the collapse of a dance pavilion, which hurled 400 picnickers into the rocks and current of Hunlock Creek, injuring more than 200 of them, disclosed that the structure gave way because it was overloaded. David Pearsol, supervising inspector of the department of labor and in- dustry, examined the site of the accident yesterday and reported that the rush of crowds seeking shelter from a storm and intent on wit- nessing a baby parade was too much for the frame structure. Twenty of the injured were still in the Nanticoke State Hospital today. From them and the many others Jess seriously hurt police and phy- sicians recelved a picture of the panic, horror and confusion attending the collapse of the building. They related that the accident oc- curred just as half a hundred babies were lined up in the pavilion, par- ticipating in the baby pageant, a fea- ture of the picnic. ‘The flooring sagged, then gave way. Men, women and children were tossed toward the hole in the center and poured into the creek as though through a giant funnel. STREET CLEANER SCORES JOB PAY| Works Hard, Refusing Money, | but Takes Clothing, Food or Books. By the Associated Press. | KANSAS CITY, July 1.—Kansas City has a street cleaner who lives for | his art alone. Tony Jenkins, 44, is a black-hniredl giant. He works about the city market | square. He lives in a boiler room of | the City Hall. | “Money, I do not want money; | money is evil,” Tony sald. “If I got| money I get into trouble. If I got | nice clothes I get into trouble. Work, | my friend, hard work, that is good. | ‘Work for your mind and body and soul. Do your work good and you will | have no trouble.” Persons have tried to give Tony money for his obliging errands but to no avail. He will accept clothing, food or books, but no other pay. The city has offered Tony wages for a job that he does well, but he has de- clined. He said he has not touched coin or currency for four years. Jenkins is a native of Poland. o Arm From Shark Murder Hint. . Following the discovery of a man’s arm, vomited by a recently captured shark in a tank, a man has been ar- rested in Sydney, Australia, on a charge of murder. Police investigated for three weeks before they made the charge. The shark was placed in Coogee Aquarium a short time ago, and the arm found soon afterward. It bore tattoo marks which identified it as that of James Smith. The police theory is that Smith's body was cut up and thrown into the sea. The arm became detached and was swallowed | by the shark, they say. | ESTABLISHED OV CLEARA{N?E IALE 0f HENDERSON's Furniture Own Whistle DEVICE SET IN MOUTH OF INDIAN WARRIOR.
