IRGEDBYGBSON Senator Says Government Should Share in Cost of D. C. Project. The Federal Government should ghare in the costs of providing this rountry with a model airport in its Natfonal Capital, Senator Gibson, Re- publican. of Vermont, declared today in a statement setting forth his oppo- | eition to the airport bill recently passed by the House. | Senator Gibson defended the pro- | posal that has been pending for a| number of years to place the airport | at Gravelly Point, which is gradually | being filled in on the Potomac as a | War Department dredging project. | The House bill leaves the selection of | a site to & commission and would re- | quire the District of Columbia to meet the entire cost of the develop- | ment. As originally drawn, the bill| provided that the Federal Govern-| ment would advance the appropria- tion and the District government would repay half of the expenditure | over a period of years with interest. Favors U. S. Leadership. Senator Gibson, sponsor of the| airport bill in the Senate, stated: “This country should be a leader in the development of aviation. It should have a national airport comparable to Croydon for England and Le Bourget for France. By the Associated Press. * Legal control of rural rehabilitation activities formally passed today from the Relief Administration to Under- secretary Tugwell's Rural Resettle- ment Administration, but along with it went vexing problems which threaten prolonged delay to the $100,000,000 program. The principal obstacle was provided by rulings by Controller General Mc- Carl that the Resettlement Adminis- tration cannot make grants to State rural rehabilitation corporations which | were established in 44 States under | the F.
