YORK, Pa., March 15 (Special). — With sales of York air conditioning equipment increased approximately 300 per cent during the first five months of the present fiscal year, sev- | eral manufacturing departments are now working on three eight-hour shifts per day, according to S. W. Lauer, general sales manager of the York Ice Machinery Corp. CITES SOUNDNESS OF TRADE REVIVAL Dun & Bradstreet Review Avers Present Basis Is Best Since 1932. NEW YORK, March 15—Dun & Bradstreet in its weekly trade review declared today the present business upturn represents the soundest revival since the depression low of 1932. “Neither the vagarles of March weather in all of its perverse mani- festations nor the continued uncer- tainty of the course of national legis- lation have been sufficiently potent to swerve the movement of general busi- ness, by any wide degree, from its definitely charted course,” declared the review. “The recession which appeared in some divisions during the last three weeks seems to have been checked, asa fuller realization has been reached that the present upturn represents the soundest revival that has occurred since the nadir was touched in 1932. Gloom Held Exaggerated. “With natural forces vigilantly di- rected by men whose experience has weathered stress and storm periods of many economic readjustments, the spread between buoyant sentiment 4| that the gloomy views held in some i W | 16% | 4% | STATEMENT IS ISSUED 2| BY NEW YORK RESERVE and tangible results is being narrowed | constantly, and proofs are multiplying ‘quanvrs have not been wholly war- ranted, in the light of current reas- suring developments. “After a slow start, a less interrupt- |ed expansion during the next six | months appears in prospect for the dmribume branches.” Spring buying has started, the re- | view said, with the public going ahead with purchases despite the weather. | “Instead of having passed the sea- | son’s peak, as had appeared possible in February, new highs are indicated for many industrial divisions before Spring runs will have been com- pleted,” it reported. Motor Output Climbs. | The review showed an expansion in motor production had not | checked, and said the output of farm | equipment is at the best pace in years. { “An increase of 50 to 60 per cent in | the sales of tractors and power ma- | chinery indicates the definite trend of the farmer away from horse-drawn machinery, doubtless due to the higher valuation of horses and the prohibitive feed prices in most sections. * * | “Already disrupted and unsettled by | | the paucity of orders, the cotton goods | trade was left almost prostrate by the | mi tumble which the price of raw slnple1 took during the early part of the The report pointed out that manu- facturers of uniforms were receiving more orders than for any Spring period in the last four years, an action | which the analysts declared was caused by replacement orders from firemen, policemen and other uniform | wearers who were being paid more 1 regularly.
