" THE EVE NURSE ACQUITTED ON MURDER CHARGE Nell Baker Freed in Trial of Death of 10-Year-Old ‘Wanda Cox. By the Associated Press. PRINCETON, Ky., March 15.—Nell Baker late last night was acquitted of a murder charge in the death of 10-year-old Wanda Cox. Miss Baker, 38-year-old nurse, and the child’s father, Charles W. Cox, in- surance salesman and former divinity student, were indicted jointly after Wanda and her 18-year-old sister Maurelle died following violent ill- nesses. Wanda was nursed at Miss Baker’s home. Separate trials were granted. Cox is to be’tried in the June term of court. Commonwealth’s Attorney Alvin Lisanby said after the verdict was announced that Miss Baker probably would not be brought to trial on a second charge in connection with the death of Maurelle Cox. He said the death of Wanda was “a much stronger case.” Witnesses had quoted Miss Baker as saying she loved the girls’ father and intended to marry him. ALBANY BILLS AIMED AT FOREIGN LOTTERIES Tickets Would Be Transported by Auto Instead of Mails in New York State. By the Assoclated Press. ALBANY, N. Y., March 15.—Legis- lation to drive foreign lotteries vut of the Empire State by setting up a com- peting system of legalized charity lotteries was introduced in the Legisla- ture yesterday. Senator James J. Crawford, New York Democrat, introduced two lottery bills. Coincidentally the Post Office Department at Washington issued new orders intensifying its drive against foreign iotteries. “We don’t want to get ‘mixed up with the Pederal Government,” Craw- ford said. “Our lottery tickets won’t g0 through the mails. We intend to | have them transported by automobile.” His bills proposed the legalization of | lottery contests by any legitimate | charity. Explorer's Widow Dead.
