Be Given'at Persian Leganoh. President and Mrs. Roosevelt w celebrate their wedding anniversary | a week from today and it is expected that, as last year, they will be sur- rounded by members of their family and very intimate friends. Mrs. Roosevelt will spend tomorrow in New York to attend the meeting of the Monday Sewing Class in the home of Mis. James Roosevelt, mother of the President. Members of the class have met together and made clothes for less fortunate for many vears, Mrs. Roosevelt senior having been among the organizers. The group took the place, in a smaller way, of the present-day Junior League, and was organized for charity work among the younger members in so- ciety. The First Lady of the Land will return in time for the second of | her afternoon musicales Tuesday, having planned ‘a series of four such | parties during the early days of Lent. The Minister of Persia and Mme. Djalal will again observe the hirtn- day anniversary of Riza Shah Pah- lavi, the present ruler of their coun- try, giving a large reception Friday evening. Such celebrations at the Persian Legatioh are always delight- ful parties and since the new regime fn Persia the anniversary of the Shah’s birthday is observed instead of the New Year, which, according to the old calendar, was the first day of Spring, March 21. Society in the National Capital, even the most devout, is dining, Junching and teaing quite as though Lent did not exist. And, after all, society must eat and the official sea- son is not long enough t6 permit all the parties hostesses in Washington want to give. Echoes are still heard from the. brilliant annual party of the Women's National Press Club Tuesday, a party which coulu not be arranged and carried out any- where else in the world. In capitals where brilliant women such as the guests Tuesday evening could be found the governments would not permit such take-offs and burlesque of officials and their families as the members of the Press Club indulge in in the various stunts which follow the dinner. The party was followed by a num- ber of informal supper parties and as dinner | country, Mr. Jan Masaryk, son of the President. ‘The bal masque, which was given last night, was a gay and colorful party, giving something of the atmos- phere of the brilliant and festive balls of “old Russia” and the proceeds will aid St. Nicholas’ Orthodox Russian Church, the only one of its persuasion in Washington.
