Italian and Brazilian obligations were weak features of the foreign list. French bonds held their early gains, SOUTHERN MARYLAND TRUST IN RECEIVERSHIP By a Staff Correspondent of The Star. UPPER MARLBORO, Md,, January 4.—In anticipation of the expiration of Maryland’s emergency banking law, the Southern Maryland Trust Co. was placed in the hands of a receiver yes- terday. The institution has been liquidating through a conservator since the national banking holiday. It was emphasized that the receiver- ship would in no way effect the Seat Pleasant Bank, formed from the assets of the Trust Co., which recently paid an additional 10 per cent dividend. Under the receivership, liquidation of the trust company will proceed under the Circuit Court instead of the Bank Commissioner. Bank Com- missioner John J. Ghingher will act as receiver. Leo J. Naughton, con- servator, will remain as the receiver’s representative. e PULLMAN, INC., MERGES MANUFACTURING UNITS By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, January 4.—Consolida- tion of most of the manufacturing sub- | sidiaries of Pullman, Inc., was an- nounced by C. A. Liddle, who is to be- come president of the new organiza- tion, Pulman-Standard Car Manufac- turing Co. Pullman Car & Manufacturing Corp. (Del.) has served as the nucleus | of the reorganization, acquiring Dick- son Car Wheel Co., New Orleans Car | Wheel Co., Standard Steel Car Corp. (Del.), Standard Steel Car Corp. (Pa.), Pullman-Bradley Car Corp. and | Richmond Car Corp. The change in name to Pullman-Standard followed. The change, effective January 1, Liddle said, did not affect the sleeping | car operating units. OIL REFINERS REPORT LARGER RUNS TO STILLS By the Associated Press. ! NEW YORK, Jenuary 4 —Refineries | representing 89.8 per cent of estimated total capacity operated at 69.9 per . cent of their capacity, reported daily ! average runs of crude oil to stills as 2,382,000 barrels. Daily average the' previous week for refineries repre- | senting 89.7 per cent of total, operated | at 70.3 per cent of capacity, was 2,371,000 barrels, the American Petro- leum Institute said. Finished gasoline stocks at refineries | totaled 25,959,000 barrels against 24,- 450,000. Unfinished gasoline stocks totaled 5,016,000 barrels against 4,985,- 000 barrels. With the return of holiday ecash, $94,000,000 found its way back into the Treasury or its agencies during the week ended January 2. The money in circulation on that date, the condition report of Federal Reserve Banks shows, was $5,534,000,« 000, which was $30,000,000 higher than on the comparable date last year. In the meantime, reserve balances of memoer banks showed ancther sharp upturn of $129,000,000 to total $4,090,00,00, which figure was $1,- 380,000,000 in excess of last year. The condition statement said: “The daily average volume of Fed- eral reserve bank credit outstanding during the week ended January 2 was $2,468,000,000, a decrease of $25- 000,000 compared with the preceding week and of $218,000,000, compared with the corresponding week in 1934. “On January 2 total reserve bank credit amounted to $2,461,000,000, & decrease of $9,000,000 for the week.
