NEW YORK, January 4.—General American Investors Co., Inc., reported the net asset value of its common stock as of December 31 last was $6.53 a share, against $5.54 at the end of 1933. Excluding security profits, the net income after deducting interest on the debentures was equal to more than 67 per cent of the dividends on the | ceferred stock, the company re- ported. Substantial blocks of common stock added to the company's port- folio in 1934 included American Metal, D. €., FRIDAY. CHICAGO, January 4. — Mile-a- minute passenger gervice between Chi- cago and St. Paul-Minneapolis, which in effect saves & business day for eastern travelers bound for the Twin Cities, became a reality Wednesday, when “The 400,” & new de luxe air- conditioned Chicago & North Western Railway train made its debut. The train makes 400 miles in 400 minutes on its run. It operates between Chicago and the Twin Citfes, via Mil- waukee, making stops only at Mil- waukee, Adams and Eau Claire. “The 400" will make the 85-mile run from Chicago to Milwaukee in 80 minutes. The maximum average speed will te around 75 miles per hour. How- ever, the new E-2-A lccomotives are capable of making a speed of over 100 miles an hour.
