Reminiscences of their experiences in the Spanish-American War and the intervening years and election of of- ficers featured the thirty-fifth annual | reunion banquet of Company C of the |old First District of Columbia Volun- | teer Infantry in the war with Spain, held in the Levera Italian Restaurant, | 1314 L street, last night. Most of the members of the com- pany belonged to the old National Fen- cibles, famous military organization of the time. Arthur B. Claxton of Woodside, Md., | who served as sergeant in the outfil- | was elected commander for the ensuing year. Capt. J. A. Costello was chosen adjutant and William A. Hickey chap- [lain and historian. Capt. Costello and IMr Hickey reside here. There were 30 odd present at last STAR, WASHINGTO night's meeting out of some 85 mem- bers who made up the company. Many of them had come far to attend. In accordance with a pledge made by members of the company when they were mustered into Federal service 35 years before the date of last night's banquet, the group gets together each year for a reunion, and will continue to do so as long as more than a sihgle member of the company is alive. Shortly after convening, Mr. Hickey spoke at a brief memorial service for deceased members. Maj. Thacker V. Walker was elected toastmaster and called upon the various members for addressés. Capt. Charles S. Domer outlined the history of the company from the time it was mustered in and gave an outline of the reunions of its members in the years since the war with Spain. A clipping from The Evening Star of 35 years ago, giving an account of the awarding of medals from the citizens of the District to the members of the company by President McKinley at a 1spev:ul ceremony was read at the meat- ng. A message of greetings from Brig. Gen. George H. Harries, who was com- mander of the old regiment of volun- teers, was read. Others who spoke at the meeting were: Arthur B, Claxton, A. B.
