KANSAS CITY, May 27.—Federal sgents asserted today they had broken up a wholesale liquor ring operating | in seven Middle Western States with the arrest of 20 men and seizure of records here last night. Officers said the round-up climaxed 18 months of investigation under direc- tion of H. L. Duncan, special agent, which indicated the Capone ring of Chicago was a source of raw alcohol. Nine Taken in Hotel. Nine of the men, alleged leaders of the ring, whose business, agents said, 2d totaled $500,000 in the ‘last five onths, were arrested at a downtown hotel. The others, including June Kathrens, operator of a trucking fleet. as the head of a storage and transfer company, were taken in custody later, Chet A. Keyes, assistant district at- torney, said the Government's case was complete. Liquor and alcohol, agents reported, was imported from the Gulf and East- ern points by the carload and processed for distribution in. Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Colorado, Nebras- ka and Texas. Kathrens obtained his release on bond. The others were “held for the Government” in jail. The nine first were Robert Carnahan, Joe Pete, Guy Brock, Frank Mulloy, Ralph osenberg, Leopold Schwarz, Law- fence Cipolla, Willilam A. Cacy and William Michael.
