MACHADO DENIES NEWS IS GENSORED President of Cuba Declares He Is Willing for America to Know All Facts. By the Assoclated Press. HAVANA, Cuba, December 18 —Presi- dent Machado, in_a statement cabled to the Associated Press yesterday, said that he was perfectly willing to have the American people know all the facts of the situation in Cuba. The President stated that “not a single line or word outgoing or incoming of the Associated Press or of any other recognized press association or of any! accredited correspondent cf any Ameri- can newspaper has been withheld or censored in any wa, Courts Carry On. Commenting on dispatches carried by the Associated Press on December 11 and 12, the Cuban President denied that the suspension of guarantees was tanta- mount to martial law, declaring that at best this was a careless statement. “No civilians are being tried by mili- tary ccurts,” he said. “and the civil courts are carrying on their normal function.” Referring to rumors mentioned as such in the dispatch which included the statement that all had been denied, the President said: “The cabinet meeting was not a secret meeting. The American Ambassador did not attend this meeting. The President did not place his resignation in the hands of the Supreme Court. The American Ambassador had not summoned cruisars from Guantanamo.” Denies Censorship. | The President also denied statements that all news communications thought to exaggerate the picture of political unrest in Cuba were withheld from the outside world and that all incoming news which dealt with revolutionary activities in other parts of the world was held up by the censorship. The President concluded that at a time when every government in the world is corfronted with difficult prob- lems in the maintenance of public order due to unrest brought about largely by economic conditions, he felt sure that it | |} was desirable that the above facts be || known. In basement rooms of a large build- ing overlooking one of Georgetown's parls, attractive Christmas gifts have been prepared by men and women who will never see the colorful novelties which they have made. Fated to spend their lives in darkness, little gloom, however is felt in the presence of these biind men and women of the Henry and Annie Hurt Home for the Blind at Thirty-first and R streets. A song came from the lips of a man, caning a small stool, which makes an attractive Christmas gift. these stools, as well as children’s chairs, wood skets, and other rush articles, have been sold at the home in the past Many of thres™ weeks. More articles remain, however, than had been expected by the afictd men and women, and be- lated Christmas shoppers will find dainty and novel gifts in the sales room at the home. In addition to the handiwork, many articles have been received from blind persons living in other parts of Wash- ington. Bead work, crochet and knit- ted articles, rag rugs, rush mats, fire- side brooms and numerous other gifts are included in the Christmas sale of the blind. All the money received from the sale goes directly to the persons who made the gifts.
