BALTIMORE, December 11.—A spe- cial committee was appointed by the Baltimore Clearing House yesterday to co-cperate with the State banking au- thorities and the officials of the Ches- apeake Bank in working out the affairs of the institution. ‘Waldo Newcomer, president of the clearing house, who will serve as chair- man of the special committee, said in naming it that the group would “do anything they that will be helpful in the situaticn. United States exports of industrial | machinery for the 10 months ended with October fell' short of the abnormally large volume of the 1929 period, but reached a value 12 per cent in excess of the 1928 period. The respective val- ues, the Department of Commerce an- nounces, were $193,420,000 for the lat- est period, in comparison with $211 639,000 in 1929 and $172,380,000 in 1928. Construction, ofl well and metal work- | ing machinery, all showed exports for the 10 months in excess of even the expanded 1929 volume. NEW YORK, December 11.—Liquida- {tion of bonds was heavy and price de- clines were substantial during the first hour of trading today, but then volume tdeclined and price movements turned irregular, though the list was about a point under Wednesday's close on the average and at a new bottom for five years or more. The selling was orderly and in most cases declines were held to fractions. As the sesslon wore on, many bonds made small recoveries. Money rates were unchangéd. At the opening the market was af- fected by selling engendered by the closing of the Bank of United States. The manner in which this affected the whole list, high-grade issues, junior Joonds and speculative descriptions alike, was evidence that much of it was of & forced character. Such gilt-edge securi- ties as New York .Central 4s, Atchison General 4s, Canadian National 5s, Great Northern 7s. American Telephonc 5135, Standard Oil of New York 41zs Duquesne Light 47.s, Utah Power & Light 55 and Laclede Gas 5':s dropped from fraction to over a point. ‘The entire group of active United States Government obligations declined from 1/32 to 13/32, later making small recoveries. Inland Steel 4155 were off 11, points. Frisco A 4s lost 114, Nickel | Plate 4155 were down 1% at one time, | American & Foreign Power 5s dropped 17 points. A notable exception was the gain of 2%, points in International ‘Telephone 5s. Convertible had a like course. eral Theaters Equipment 6s 2% points, Warner Bros. International Great Northern 6s, Missouri-Pacific 4s and 5158, Frisco 415s, Seaboard Airline 6s, Southern Railway 4s, Boston & Maine 55 and International Railways of Cen- tral America 5s were unchanged or a shade brtter. Tilinols 55 dropped 1% points. St Paul adjustments hit a new low, down 1. Erie 55 opened off 2'; at a fresh minimum, but lajer recovered most of the ground Industrials were mostly lower. Amer- ican Natural Gas 6125 dropped a point. So did Chile Copper 5s, Publix 5':s, National Dairy Products 5148, McKe2sson & Robbins 5%;s, Postal Gen- 7s and Hudson & Manhattan Income 5s. Here again there were a few firm spots, including Hudson Coal 5s, Goodyear 5s, American Sugar Rofining 65, Pan-Amer- ican Petroleum 6s and Transconti- nental 61,s. On the Curb Exchange new lows were made by Cities Service 5s of 1950 gnd by Assoclated Gas & Electric 55 of 1968. At one time there was no«bid for the latter bond but it sold later at 69, off 2 points. Foreign dollar bonds joined the down- ard trend. Argentine and Chilean ues were off 2 to 23; points on re- newed reports of political unrest in South America. Lautaro Nitrate 6s dived over 4 points. Bolivian issues took a fresh tumble, the 7s dropping over 4 peints, and so were Sao Paulo 6 The Sao Paulo Coffee Loan 7Ts, however, gained a point. NEW STOCK EXCHANGE RULING IS ANNOUNCED By the Assoclated Press. NEW YORK, December 11.—The New York Stock Exchange, in an effort to make its regulation of the redistribution of securities more flexible, has altered its rule placing the entire matter of secondary distribution in the hands of a special committee. ‘This committee wili govern the sales to the public of securities held by mem- bers on their own shelves, as distinct trom-the transactions executed for cus- tomers for commission on the floor of the exchange. - The exchange’s rule on the redistri- bution to the public of bjocks of securi- ties purchased by mem! for their own account has been very strict, heretofore, particularly in the matter of payment cf commissions to salesmen, The change in the rules merely sets up a committee to govern this aspect of members’ business, and exactly what changes in procedure may be made are not yet apparent. It is felt in broker- age quarters, however, that the sale of securities with which members may be burdened will be facilitated. PARIS BOURSE PRICES.
