HELD NEGLECTED Nfitional Farm Women’s Con- | ““ference Hears Noted Fem- ‘finine Leaders. By the Associated Press. BOSTON, December 6—Neglect of | the rural child today was pronounced “s general rule in practically every fleld of child welfare” by Miss Grace Abbott, chief of the Children’s Bureau. Speaking before the woman's division of the American Farm Bureau Federa- tion, Miss Abbott said the rural set- ting, with its lack of crowding, was an advantage to children, but lack of educational and scientific health facili- | tles more than counterbalanced this. Democratic Leader Speaks. ‘The women were told by Mrs. Nellie ‘Taylore Ross, chairman of the woman's division of the Nationa' Democratic | Committee, that the farmer must look | for relief to the Democratic party. Mrs. Ross denounced the recent fariff bill, which she said was initiated ostensibly to help the farmers. but “which, she sald was initiated and ed with apologies” by President Hoover, aided only great manufactur- | ers. “If some heroic steps are not taken, farm life as we have known it through the generations will be a thing of the past, and we shall see farm lands pass- | ing into the ownership of a few great masters of finance,“ she said. Election Frauds Held Urban Disease. ‘The farm woman was urged by Mrs. Lena Lowe Yost, director of the Republican National of the Nation. “The national struggle against crime and civic indifference,” she said, “is putting our form of Government on Crime in city congestion. Election frauds and corruption are urban diseases. civic evils that breed in city life are always with us; the wholesome influence of rural popu- lation is to alleviate. “The farm woman, to make herslf effective against the spread of crime and deteriorations of American ideals, should recogni that Government is based on party responsibility. .She should join the potlitical party of her choice and be an influence in creating party platforms, defining policles and naming candidates.” LOUISVILLE BANK HEAD SUED ON $2,000,000 NOTE Bancokentucky Company Receiver Charges Preferments in Transfer of Newspaper Stock.
