Miss Fritts said that she screamed wnd the man struck her in the face and on the head with his fists. She fought back and struggled to escape. During the struggle an automobile rounded a turn in the road and became visible to the man, who left his victim and ran into the woods. Miss Fritts made her way to the gaso- line filling station at Georgia avenue and Blair road and notified the attend- ants there of what had happened. Sil- ver Spring police and officers from the thirteenth precinct in the District arrived almost simultaneously. They scoured the neighborhood for some time, but no taace of the man could be found. The young woman is employed in ‘Washington, she told police. When her duties require her getting home after nightfall, she said, her mother, Mrs. Mary H. Fritts, usually mests her at the street car line on Georgia avenue. Mrs, Fritts was on her way to meet her daughter when the attack occurred. —_— SAYS NAVY NECESSARY Prince George of England Holds Small Craft Are Indispensable. LONDON, October 22 (#).—Prince George, youngest son of the British rulers, said in an address at the Navy League dinner last night he thought it would be a long time before light cruisers and other small naval craft could be dispensed with, because they shoulder most of the monotonous but important job of police and ambulance work in peace time. FAIRFAX, Va. October 22.—Fairfax County’s Red Cross roll call this year will start officially tomorrow instead of November 11. The change was de- cided on by the County Executives Committee to meet a situation peculiar to suburban Washington. A large pro- portion of Fairfax County citizens are employed in Washington business offices and Government departments, where systematic drives are made each year for 100 per cent Red Cross enrollment. As 50 cents of each Red Cross dollar is kept by the local chapter for local relief calls the Fairfax County Chapter each year, it is sald, loses large sums. E. C.
