Spanish War Veterans Meetings This Week. ‘Tuesday—Pettit Camp, 921 Penn- sylvania avenue southeast. ‘Wednesday—Urell Camp, Pythian Temple, 1012 Ninth street northwest. Thursday—Harden Camp, Pythian ‘Temple. Monday—Pettit Auxiliary, Naval Lodge Hall, Fourth and Penn- sylvania_avenue southeast. Tuesday—Lawton Auxiliary, Pythian Temple. ‘Wednesday—Urell Auxiliary, Pythian Temple. Camp Visitations. ‘Wednesday—Miles Camp visits Urell, Pythian Temple. Harden Camp met October 2, and was called to order by Comdr. Leo M. Devlin, John A. Hamilton, 1st United States Artillery, and William H. Evans, 2d Virginia Infantry, were mustered into the camp. Charles F. Walsh and Clar- ence V. Sayer were reinstated. L. Cau- dill, William F. Powell and John A. Jorgensen were elected to membership. Leslie Kerr was transferred from Har- den to Miles Camp, No. 1, of the De- partment of the District of Columbia. William O. Ohm made a report as chairman of the Sick Committee. Jacob Orken, contact officer of the camp, made a report as to the assistance he had been able to give to different mem- bers of the camp and their widows and dependents in making out applications for pensions. ! The camp voted to hold an enter- | tainment the first meeting in November. The Entertainment Committee was given power to arrange for the entertainment, and instructed that the entire member- ship of the camp be notified. Depart- ment Comdr. Benjamin F. Motley spoke. Washington Temple, National Lineal Society of the Spanish War, met Octo- ber 1 at Pythian Temple, with the chief ruler, Mrs, Catherine Boss, presiding. The hostesses of the evening were Mrs. Weber and Mrs. Yarbrough. The mem- bers of the soclety and their families are invited to attend & Halloween social at the home of the chief ruler, Mrs. Catherine Boss, Kenilworth, D. C., Oc- tober 27. I W. U. News ’. North Star Union met October 7 at| Hamline M. E. Church. The president, Mrs. E. E. Norwood, presided. Mrs. H. C. McNeill, assistant evangelistic direc- tor, had charge of the devotional period. Mrs. E. M. Gustafson, corresponding secretary, read.a poem from Mrs, C. W. Shaw, L. T. L. chairman, tendering her resignation on account of leaving the city permanently. The treasurer, Mrs. William M. Hurley, reported on the year's activities. The various chairmen of the other committees gave reports. Five dollars was contributed by the president in behalf of the union toward the fund for distributing appropriate books on prohibition in the libraries and schools. The annual election of officers fol- lowed: President, Mrs. Marie M. Brin- ley; first vice president, Mrs. Thomas F. Law; second vice president, Mrs. M. Thompson; third vice president, Mr: Louis F. Holden; fourth vice presiden Mrs. P. M. Osterhout; recording secre- tary, Miss Marian McCoy; correspond- ing secretary, Mrs. E. M. Gustafson, and treasurer, Mrs. William M. Hurley. The meeting which was scheduled to be held November 4' will be postponed to November 11, on account of the annual ! convention, to be held in Calvary Bap- tist Church, November 4 and 5, at 10 am. Election of District officers will be held November 5. A vote of thanks was given to Mrs, E. E. Norwood, the retiring president. Mrs. George A. Ross, District treasurer, was a guest. Chapin Union met Wednesday at 522 Bixth street, with Mrs. P. W. Keys pre- siding. The devotional was led by Mrs. Francis St. Clair. Reports were given by the officers. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs. P. W. Keys; first vice president, Mrs. Theresa A. Williams; second vice president, Mrs. D. C. Richardson; corresponding secre- tary, Mrs. Frances W. Winters; treas. urer, Miss Georgia S. Parham; record- ing secretary, Mrs. J. W. Ayers. Mrs, Ayers succeeds Mrs. Willlam Waggener, who is Wintering in Florida. Directors of departments are: Official organ, Mrs. Keys; Americanization, Mrs. Banker; music associate, Mrs. Ayers. The annual convention of the W. C. ‘T. U. will be held in the Calvary Bap- tist Church, November 4 and 5. The evening session of November 4 will be under the auspices of the Young Peo- ple’s Branch. The Committee on Arrangements is Mrs. N. M. Pollock, Dr. Lauretta E. Kress, Mrs. James M. Doran, Mrs. H. Edson Rogers, Mrs. Charles P. Grand- field, Mrs. George A. C. T. U. in the Calvary Baptist Church. ©. G. Christgan is author of the play. MEMBER OF “SEA HAWKS” JUMPS IN PARACHUTE Naval Officer’s Plane Goes Into Outside Roll, Forcing Him to Leap. By the Assoclated Press. PENSACOLA, Fla., October 11.—Lieut. W. V. Davis, U. 8. N, went over the side with a parachute as his pursuit plane went into an outside roll here yesterday. Lieut. Davis, who was the navigator for Art Goebel on the Dole flight from San Prancisco to Honolulu, joined the Caterpillar Club from an altitude of 3,500 feet. He is a member of the famous “three sea hawks,” of the Pa- cific Coast. He is here as an instructor at the naval air station. Thursday Lieut. H. 8. Hale fell 2.500 feet with his plane from an altitude of 5,000 feet before he saw he could not bring it out of & spin, and he had to Jump. CLUB LOCKER SEARCH HELD UNCONSTITUTIONAL| Federal Judge, Scoring Exclusive Group, Rules Advance Informa- tion Necessary for Liquor Raid. By the Associated Press. LOUISVILLE, Ky., October 11.—Fed- eral Judge Charles 1. Dawson yesterday ruled that search of private lockers during a raid on the exclusive Pen- dennis Club here was illegal unless dry agents had definite reason to believe they contained liquor. The court sus- tained a motion of Walker H. Bowman, Jr., to have the search of his locker de- elared unconstitutional. Judge Dawson refused to rule the Jocker search was unreasonable and in- dicated that prosecutions would hold sagainst individual owners in whose lock- ers agents were prepared to swear that they had seen liquor in advance of opening.
