BALLOU SPEAKS * TOCLUB WOMEN| Says Public Needs to Know! Activities of Education " Board. “The best help which can be ren- dered to the Board of Education by ‘women in general, and members of ‘women'’s clubs in particular, is by keep- ing intelligently informed as to what the board is doing, or trying to do, for education,” declared Supt. of Educa- tion Fyank W. Ballou at the opening meeting of the Department of Educa- tion of the D. C. Federation of Wom- en's Clubs held in the auditorium of Ballou, “is misinformation of the publ!l: as to what the Board of Education is doing. Frequently we re- ceive criticism of things which we are hot doing nor have any plans of doing. We desire criticism based on intelligent understanding, and the best help the public can give us is to keep informed as to what is going on, and then give frank criticism of what it thinks.” ‘Women Hear Speech. ! Dr. Ballou's remarks were addressed to his audience in response to an in- vitation from Mrs. Ellis Logan, chair- mln of the Board of Education of the Federation, to explain to mem- ben of the women’s clubs, whose Tep- resentatives were present at the meet- ing, the best methods for women to co- operate with the Board of Education in its work of educating the youth of the community. The meeting, which was of an in- formal nature, was an effort on the part of the Department of Education of the Federation of Women's Clubs to further better understanding and co- operation between the D. C. Women's Clubs and the instruments of com- munity good, such as religion, education and the press. Dr. Moses Lovell of the Mount Pleas- ant Congregational Church spoke on the good and social helpfulness which bhad been achieved by establishment of the Life Adjustment Community Cen- ter, which, as a confidential ldvl.lor to the ‘“normal mll:ndlnd ‘woman" ll! owing ng yearly || mfl%’u ?olunmeen for its aul{ Much has been done for the down-and- |, outer,” sald Dr. Lovell.
