PUEBLA, Mex'co, May 23.—The fu- neral procession of Gen. Pahlo Sidar took off from Vera Cruz at 7:30 yes- terday morning. A Sikorsky plane, flown by Enret Willlams, carried the wshes of Gen. Sidar. accompanted by four Mexican generals as a guard of honor. The escorting planes ‘were Gen. Sidar's favorite ship, flown by the Mex- ican pilot, Lieut. Belasco; a- Sparton, flown by Clecenger, and the Pilot, our own plane. The Sikorsky was first off; followed | by the others. We flew in’ four-ship formation at 12,000 feet, p-.ulnz south of the snow-capped Mount Orizabo. The funeral party arrived over Puebla at 9:17 and was met by Col. Leon, fiy- ing a Stinson Junior, and Col. Zala, fly- ing a Vought Corsair. The flying funeral party circled the city several times in formation, now consisting of five planes, three of which were flown by Ameri- cans. We landed in formation at 9:25 and were met by the general command- ing the local troops, the governor of the state and mayor of the city. Fifty thousand people were at the field and 5,000 soldiers. The funeral procession passed through the city to the assem- bly room in the state palace, where the remains were placed in state. The entire population turned out for the procession and lined the streets as | Amy. the funeral cortege, consisting of all the dignitaries and 5,000 of the popula- tion, with eight bands, proceeded to the tune of the funeral march through the streets. Gen. Sidar's ashes lay in state with a guard of officers until 9 o'clock today, when the entire party left for Mexico City. During the en- tire trip the Pilot radio was in com- munication by radio, keeping the sec- retary of war at Mexico City informed ©of our progress. ‘The Americans in the party are Er- ottt Willlams of Greenville, 8. C.; Cloyd Clevenger of Denver, Colo.,, and the crew of the Pilot radio. Lieut. Ve- lasco is fiying the Douglas, which was always flown by Gen. Sidar and was his favorite ship. ~All the ships were draped in mourning.
