Sigmund Romberg, leading American composer of operetta scores, will make his second radio appearance tonight as the guest of the Happy Wonder Bakers in their broadcast over WRC and a net- work of other National Broadcasting Co. stations. The program, during which Romberg will be at the piano for several num- bers, will consist entirely of melodies from his more famous scores, includ- ing “The Student Prince,” “The Desert Song,” “New Moon,” “Blossom Time" and one of his earliest successes, “The Blue Paradise.” ‘The Eveready hour will present a symposium of the song hits of George De Sylva, Lew Brown and Ray Hender- son, whose most recent success Was “Sonny Boy,” the number they wrote for Al Jolson. Nathaniel Shilkret's Or- chestra will play the selections. The University of Notre Dame Glee Club of 35 members, heads a group of vaudeville attractions which make up the weekly R. K. O. hour. Others con- tributing to this program include Lee Morse, crooner; Lee Duncan, owner and trainer of Rin-Tin-Tin; Peter Higgins, tenor, and the comedy team of Clifford and Marion. Aside from its regular features, WRC also will broadcast a new program called “Trolka Bells.” Russian folk songs by Alexander Kirilloff and his balalaika orchestra make up this pro- gram. Irving Berlin's most popular number of 15 years ago, “I Want to Be in Dixie,” will be sung as a duet by Frank Crumit and Julla Sanderson in the Blackstone broadcast tonight over WMAL and associated Columbia Broad- casting System stations. Miss Sander- son’s solo numbers will be “Wasn't It Beautiful While It Lasted” and “Button Up Your Overcoat.” Crumit will sing as his solo numbers “The Grass Is Always Greener” and a medley of old songs. Gypsy songs will be played by Emery Deutsch and his Gypsy Camp Ensemble in the Romany Patteran program. The grand opera concert will feature an abridged form of “Cavalleria Rusti- cana. WMAL's features of local origin will be a concert by the Vogue Entertainers and a talk by A. K. Shipe of the Board of Trade on the plans for the bicen- tennial celebration of the birth of George Washi Dinner music and a concert by the Kohala Melody Boys are the outstand- ing features of the WOL program. WJSV has scheduled its usual varied rogram which includes a concert by in's Washingtonians and a sketch by the Montgomery Players, FLOGGING OF INDIAN CHILDREN SCORED Conference Is Told Government Rule Permitting Brutality Is Revived. By the Assoclated Press. NEW YORK, April 22.—John Col- lier, secretary of the Indian Defense Association, told the biennial national conference of executives of the Camp Fire Girls Sunday that the Bureau of Indian Affairs has ‘st revived the rule permitting the flogging of Indian children. “Two years ago the rule permitting flogging was rescinded,” Collier said, “this resulted from the pressure of public opinion aroused by the really dreadful brutality to which the rule had led. Indian children were in some cases maimed and even death has re- sulted from the flogging. “We speak of Government brutality and injustice to the Indian as if these were matters of the past. They are not 0. The rule reviving flogging also revives imprisonment of Indian chil- \dren for breaches of the Government's | rules. The immature and unfortunate | culprits are confined in school jails as if they were criminals. “There are today about 20,000 Indian children who are practically prisoners in great Government boarding schools. They are inadequately clothed and they are hungry, for the Government allows for their food & maximum of 14 cents per day each. |ELEANOR BOLLING LAGS AT PAPEETE FOR COAL | Second Byrd Antarctic Ship, City of New York, Leaves Tahiti Port on Return Voyage to Panama.
