Gambrien, an aviator, took his first ride in the glider last Friday. Since then he had made four flights in the craft. J. J. Mitchener, jr., a pilot, who was watching the flight, said the crash was caused when an automobile, which was towing the craft with a 500-foot rope, swerved to avoid a haystack. By the Assoclated Press. ‘TOKIO, April 3.—Dispatches to the vernacular newspapers from Wakamatsu sald that when search was given up at the scene where the ferryboat Wakato Maru capsized yesterday 53 bodies had been recovered” and 40 persons were missing. Two of those rescued died later in a hospital, making the probable death toll 95. The ferryboat, soon after leaving Wakamatsu_for the town of Tobata, was lashed by a gale which swept huge waves aboard. The 200 passengers, twice the vessel's normal capacity, rushed to one side of the ship to escape drenching.
