Dunlap Honored for ‘“Meri- torious Service to Government” in Nicaragua. Brig. Gen. Robert H. Dunlap, U. S. M. C., a native Washingtonian, yester- day was awarded the Distinguished service Medal for “meritorious service to the Government” during the occupa- tion of Nicaragua. The official announcement was made at Marine Corps headquarters at the Navy Department. Gen. Dunlap was in Niclngul from January 19, 1928, until August 20, 1929, and during most of this time he commanded the 1lth ent of Marines, and was in charge of operation in the hazardous northern area when the bandit leader Sandino held forth. After the return of Maj. Gen. Logan Feland to the United States, Gen. Dun- lap commanded the 2d Brigade until he was relieved by Brig. Gen. Dion Williams. Gen. Dunlap was promoted to the rank of brigadier general on No- vember 12 of this year. Although born in the District of Columbia, he was ap- pointed a second lieutenant in the Ma- rine Corps from Maine. where he then lived.
