NEW YORE, Aupust 3—With rac- ing well under way at Saratoga Springs, the members of the smart set already are turning their thoughts toward the horse shows. These exhibitions, which will soon begin in different parts of Westchester, on Long Island and the various famous resorts will continue until late in the Fall. ‘The most prominent of .the early equine exhibits will be held at New- port at the county fair grounds August 15, 16 and 17. Details have been ‘com- pleted and the plans which have been announced, in part. from time to time | have been ‘consolidated. Charles P. Willlams, secretary and treasurer of the executive committes, announces that several harness classes have been added for the first time in years, and that E. Victor Loew will come from Tuxedo Park to judge these classes. One will be devoted to coaches driven with four-in-hand. = Among those already entered with their coaches are Mrs. Vanderbilt Church and ‘William H. Vanderbilt. Richard K. Mellon of Pittsburgh. has donated the major trophy, the High- | wayman Cup, which will go to the ‘Harold 'A. Meyer will 'be best man for ‘Lieut. Smith. Ushers will be classmates of the bridegroom, who was graduated Afrom the Military Academy in.1922. Miss Porter is a great-granddaughter of David Rittenhouse Porter, former Governor of Pennsylvania, and a direct descendapt of Gen. Andrew Porter, who served on Washington's staff. -On her mother’s side she is directly descended from Gen, Ambrose E. Burnside. Lieut. Smith is stationed at the Presidio, Calif., and is alde de camp to Brig. Gen. F: M. Caldwell. Following the marriage, Lieut. and Mrs. Smith will be located at Fort Monroe, Va., where. he is on duty.
