The Dolly Madison doll was dressed by Mrs. Douglas B. Horne. The cloth- ing on the life-sized figure of Dolly Madison in the National Museum is carried out to the minutesi detall. The doll wears a gown of brocaded creain silk trimmed with rose point lace, a lace fichu, white stockings and kid slippers and a satin petticoat embroid- ered with roses. The characteristic Dolly Madison hair is dressed in a tur- ban of cream satin. The minjature Dolly also carries a small book suggestive of a volume of Milton's “Paradise Lost” that her prototype in real life seldom went without. L4 Tssue of $1,500,000 7 per cent cumu- lative preferred stock of the National Press Building Corporation, the hold- ing corporation for the National Press Club, was announced yesterday by John Hays Hammond, president of the corporation. The National Press Building, de- signed as a natfonal monument to the press, is rising on the site of the historic Ebbitt Hotel. The structure will house the Washington correspond- dents and will be the permanent home of the National Press Club, which comprises about 1,000 writers and their associates. The entire common stock and equity in the property is owned by the Press Club, the return from which will be used to promote the cause of constructive journalism in the United States. "The issue of preferred stock is be- ing sold to provide for an increase in the original bullding plans, already completely financed. Through a special act of Congress the club was permitted to erect a structure three storles above the height allowed under the zoning laws of the District of Columbla. Brewer, former Assistant Attorney General, yesterday dismissed the appeal of Brewer from the de- ™ cision of Justice Hoehling of the Dis- trict Supreme Court sustained a de- murrer of Frank J. Hogan, counsel for John W. Weeks, former Secretary of War, to a suit of Brewer for $1,102.- 000. The death of Mr. Weeks put an end to the litigation, it is stated. Brewer sought to invoke an old Civil War statute which provides that any one glving information leading to the conviction of a public officer ap- proving an_improper claim against the United States shall have one-half of the amount recovered for the Gov- ernment, with a penalty of 32,000 added. Brewer asserted that Secre- tary Weeks had approved fllegally a claim of $650,000 presented by George A. Carden and Anderson T. Hurd of New York, for services in selling seven interned Austrian ships during the World War.
