¥ 32 POULTRY IS LOWER . INCENTER MARKET Fish Market Well Stocked—| i - Light Receipts of Crabs Reported Today. Decrease in pouitry prices was re- ported this morning as the most in- teresting feature of the day s market. Increased supplies and slower demand were given as the reason, for the decreases, the decreased demand re- sulting from the drop in the city’s population during the heated period Turkey prices remained stationary, but chicken prices took a drop all along the line. No change in meat prices were reported today, and fruit and vegetable prices were about the same as prices quoted yesterday. The butter market was reported firmer, remained unchanged. pal Fish Market this after- attracted many retailers, while others will do their shopping tomor- row morning. An increased demand for fish noted during the heated period, consumers lessening their de- mands for meats. Crab Season Dull. Light receipts of hard crabs and erab meat were reported, crabbers on the lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay and tributaries reporting an ex- ceedingly dull season. Soft crabs, however, are fairly plentiful and sell- ing at from 75 cents to $1.50 a dozen. Lump meat this morning was quoted at $3 a gallon, white meat at $2.75 and claw meat at $2. Hard crab prices continue high, gnd dealers fear they will not get plentiful this season. Increased receipts of rockfish, many of them caught in the vicinity of St. Georgies Island, brought the price down to 20 cents. Swordfish, not so plentiful as last week, was quoted at 40. Boston mackerel con- tinue plentiful and cheap, a price of 7 cents being quoted for them. BOSTON, July 22 (Special).—A dis- tinct lull was noticeable in the wool market today. While mills are in the market for choice wools when offered, they are going slow. Some mills have suspended negotiations for wool under consideration at the time the light- weight goods were opened, a reflection of the low basis and intense competi- tion brought by offering of new lines. Some fine territory staple has sold at $1.14a$1.15 and the movement of quarterblood wool is continuing. Dividend Reduced. NEW YORK, July 22 (®.—P. NG STAR, WASHINGTON, FARM LABOR SUPPLY. Maryland Estimator Finds Situ- ation Is Somewhat Easier Now. Special Dispatch to The Star. BALTIMORE, July 22.—The farm labor supply in Maryland is somewhat easler than it was a_while back, ac- cording to John 8. Dennee, Federal crop estimator for Maryland, who bases his deductions on reports he re- ceives direct from the farmers. The ratio of farm labor supply to demand on July 1 was 90, against 8§ on June 1 and 84, the July 1 average for the past two years. But wages being paid hired farm labor, says the statistician, average at the present time about 5 per cent above the aver- age of the past two years on July 1. Present wages average: By the month, by the day, with the day, without board, $2.81 Cancer is a disease almost unknown among uncivilized peoples.
