c= DENHARDT SIS N DEATH ACTION Asks $150,000, Charging Plot Inspired “Party Girl” Suit, By the Associated Press. BOWLING GREEN, Ky., July 29.— Brig. Gen. Henry H. Denhardt filed suit yesterday for $150,000 against' three defendants contending a recent civil suit preferred against him in Louisville alleging he was responsible for the death of a young woman was a part of a conspiracy to imprison him and ruin his name. Denhardt was sued for $75,000 by Edward C. Langan, public administra- tor of Jefferson County (Louisville) and others in connection with the death of Patricia Wilson, said by Louis- ville police to be a “party girl,” in a hotel hers Julv 15, 1936. Her battered body was found 1n an elevator shaft. Denhardt, former lieutenant gover- nor and adjutant general of Kentucky, faces a second trial this Fall on a charge of slaying his fiancee, Mrs. Verna Garr Taylor. A jury failed to agree at his first trial last Spring. Named in Denhardt's suit, filed in Warren Circuit Court, were Langan, James T. Robinson, attorney; the Sun Indemnity Co. of New York, surety on Langan's official bond, “and others to the plaintiff at this time not definitely known.” The General cotended Langan acted improperly in filing the suit. He also denied he was in Louisville or at the | hotel at the time of Miss Wilson's death. Denhardt reiterates in his petition his contention Mrs. Taylor died by her own hand. Seeking atmosphere and first-hand knowledge for a new book, Richard Halliburton, author and lecturer, left Washington on horseback early today to follow the route taken in the flight of John Wilkes Booth, President Lin- coln’s assassin. At 5 am, an hour selected because of the little traffic moving then, Halli- burton, accompanied by a photog- rapher, also on horseback, left the Ford Theater and atarted following Booth’s course, which he went over Yyesterday by motor, The author planned to spend a night at Surrattsville, Md., where Booth also stopped, and continue his trip tomorrow. “% have a deep interest in history,” Halliburton explained yesterday, “and I feel the best way to further my knowledge of historic events is to re- live them.” He said he intends to include the Booth incident in & new book to be called “The Royal Road to Romance in the United States.” E. A widespread publicity campaign, !ncluding the use of newspapers, radio and newsreels, is being used to break up the use of the so-called “baloney method” of swimming. As explained oy Gordon O. Stone, director of in- ~truction, this “baloney method,” in general practice, is a system of don- ning an inflated inner tube from an automobile tire and using it as a means of keeping the swimmer up, sometimes with castrophic results. ‘The inner tube selected is often a patched and worn out one, he said, and will not hold air, much less a numan being. The outstanding danger of this method is that the inner-tube | swimmer can too easily slip through | nis support and thereby become one more victim of the “baloney” method. WINS SCHOLARSHIP James R.
