NEW YORK, February 6.—Stocks executed a quick turn-about in today's market under the leadership of steels and rails and prices rallied fractions to around 4 points over a broad range. Traders who dumped holdings yes- terday, following the President’s mes- sage to Congress calling for a drastic reform of the Federal judiciary, started early to reinstate their positions. They found offerings few and far between, however, and, in the final hour, bids were boosted rapidly. The recovery from Friday's attack ©f nerves apparently was aided by re- newed hopes that progress was being made in negotiations to settle the General Motors strike. This stock, off nearly a point in the first period, fin- ished up s Bt 68. Chrysler advanced 113 at 1273}, Spurring the comeback also were favorable net income operating state- ments from principal railroads and indications steel mill operations will mount to still greater heights during the next several months. The Associated Press average of 60 dssues was up .6 of a point at 728, compared with a loss of .8 in the pre- eeding session. Transfers totalled 1,- 453,480 shares, compared with 1,194,- %30 last Saturday. New tops for the past five or six Sears were recorded for an assortment of favorites. ‘The Sears, Roebuck’s 52-weeks’ sales report, showing the previous 1929 rec- ord had been exceeded by a substan- tial margin, helped to push this stock up 135 to 86's. Among the liveliest and relatively strongest of the day were packing com- pany shares. These reflected esti- | mates of sharp improvement in earn- | ings for the meat processors and ex- | pectations higher prices are likely in gthe near future. C, $2,300,000 Plant By the Assoclated Press. PHILADELPHIA, February 6.—The Atlantic Refining Co. said today con- struction has been started on a $2,300,~ 000 thermal polymerization plant at the concern's Philadelphia refinery. ‘The plant will produce gasoline from the gas generated during the “crack- ing” stage of the refining process. It will have a daily production of 62,500 gallons. The company said the plant will be the largest of its type in the world. Credit.
