N F OIL SHARES RISE IN CURB TRADING Industrial Specialty Issues Also Advance Sharply. Some Losses Seen. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, December 23.—Oils and industrial specialties scored sharp gains in the Curb market today. Newmont and Aluminum Co. of America were outstanding leaders with advances of more than 4 points each. Gulf Oil rose about 2%;. NEW YORK, December 23.—Engi- neering construction awards for the week ended Tuesday totaled $49,856,- 000, compared with $39,853,000 the preceding week and $64,307,000 in the corresponding period last year, Engi- neering News-Record reported today. Private work predominated in the latest week’s total, amounting to $33,- 657,000, compared with $16.199,000 of public projects, including $2,062,000 in Federal work. Directors of Fairchild Aviation have declared a common dividend of 15 cents, payable December 29 to stock of record December 28. The disburse- ment is payable in 5 per cent notes, due December 29, 1937. Sherman M. Fajrchild, president, commennn( on the declaration, said while the company’s cash was suf- ficient to make the payment, directors felt it best not to diminish working capital. Anheuser-Bush. Columbia Broadcasting System, Inc. —Billings of this company in Novem- ber, 1936, amounted to $2.483,657, compared with $1,722,390 for Novem- ber, 1935, an increase of 44.2 per cent; total billings for 1936 were estimated at $23,289,000, which would compare with $17,637,804 for 1935. New England Telephonc ‘& Tele- graph Co.—Company reported a gain | of 42083 telephones for first 10| months of 1936; in like period of 1935 there was total gain of 15922 tele- phones. Public Service Co, of Northern Iili- nois—November net income was| $417415, against $245.646: in 11| months net income was $3,074,922, against $2,869,371. Radio Corp. of America—Revenue of National Broadcasting Co., sub- sidiary, in November, 1936, was 19.5 per cent greater than November, 1935. Ford Motor Co.—It was said com- pany will work three days this week and possibly four, but will be closed the remainder of the week because of the parts shortage; it was stated that 12,000 men have been laid off tempo- rarily until sufficient parts are on hand to resume full-time operations. c. NEW YORK, December 23.—Active trading in foreign markets sent the price of export copper up today to 1175 cents a pound, the peak since July, 1930. Today's price represents an advance of .12, of a cent & pound over yes- terday’s quotations. Heavy demand for industrial and armament uses in Europe, with some speculative buying, was ascribed as the reason for the bull market. Some other commodities rejoined the upward movement today. Crude rubber futures, after several days of inactivity, soared as much as .57 of a cent, touching 21 cents a pound, the best price since March, 1929. Strohm, local postmaster, reported a record-breaking Christmas business. He pointed out that a total of 53,770 letters passed through the stamp- canceling machines yesterday, setting an all-time record. The previous rec- ord was on December 21, 1935, when 41,000 stamps were canceled. These cancellations did not include the business of the .Naval Academy branch office, where yesterday a total of 15,000 stamps were canceled. Daily average production east of California increased 26,700 barrels to 2,552,200 barrels. Reports received from refining com- panies owning 89.9 per cent of the es- timated daily potential refining capac- ity, and which was operated at 77.9 per cent of potential, indicate that the industry as a whole ran to stills 2,990,000 barrels of crude oil daily. The daily average for the previous week, based upon refineries represent- ing 89.9 per cent of the total capacity and which operated at 769 per cent of their capacity, was 2,955,000 barrels. CLEVELAND, December 23.—Steel circles predicted production in 1937 may exceed 1936 by as much as 15 per cent, barring unfavorable price conditions and labor controversies. The forecast was based in part upon the following factors: Increased public purchasing power, undiminished requirements of the au- tomobile industry, continuation of the upward trend in the durable goods fleld, railroad demands for new equip- ment and replacements and renewed activity in the gas and oil industries. A. J. Hain, managing editor of the Magazine Steel, said: “Steel works are going into the new year operating at about 80 per cent and it will not be surprising if they reach practical ca- pacity early in 1937.” DOLLAR iS UNCHANGED By the Associated Press. DETROIT, December 23.—Stock= holders of the Kelvinator -Corp. ap- proved & merger with the Nash Motors Co. at a special meeting here today. Announcement of the approval said that holders of 878,772 shares voted for the merger and 1,200 shares were voted against it. The company has 1,196,800 shares outstanding. ‘The merged company will be known as the Nash-Kelvinator Corp., with 4,375,600 shares of issued stock.
