Few Oils, Utilities, Rails and Entire $350,000 Issue Taken | 3fi: “i Adorees Gomiey on Offering Day—Early Listing Expected. BY EDWARD C. STONE. The new issue of $350,000 Chevy Chase Club first mortgage 4!s per cent bonds, which were placed on the market yesterday by Folger, No- Jan & Co. has been sold, it was re- ported in the financial district today. The bonds were all taken on the day of the offering. It was also announced today that application will be made shortly for listing the new bonds on the Wash- ington Stock Exchange. The Chevy Chase Club 5!z per cent bonds, which are to be replaced by the new issue, have been listed on the ex- change for $everal years, or ever since they were marketed. The old bonds are to be redeemed January 1 at 102 and accrued interest and will be dropped from the Washington Ex- change list at that time. Interest on the new mortgage bonds will be paid semi-annually on July 1 and January 1. The bonds are re- deemable at the option of the Chevy Chase Club on any interest payment date, as a whole or in part, up to January 1, 1942, at 104 and accrued interest, to January 1, 1947, at 103. and thereafter at 102 for the re- maining years of the issue, except at maturity at 100 and interest Beginning on January 1, 1938, the elub is to provide a s ng fund and pay off $8,000 yearly on the bonds until maturity, the bonds bein: celled to be drawn by lot. ssue was underwritten by Fol lan & Co,, the principal officers in the firm being J. Clifford Folger and James Parker Nolan, both resident members of the Chevy Chase Club. The financial statement in the pros- pectus discloses the club to be in excellent financial condition. American Security Votes Extra. ‘The board of direx f the Amer- fean Security & Trust declared a quarterly dividend of 2 pe eent and an extra dividend of 2 sent, both payable Janu. holders of record at the ness December 31. Tra be ciosed from Jan 19, both days included. Phelps, Fenn & Co., and Mason-Ha- gen, Inc, $208,000 Arlington. Va on their bid of 100.81 for 2! bonds are dated December 1, 1 are due 1940 to 1956. The suggestion of C| resident of the New Yo hange, that low-pri 10 to January s should very carefully igated before | ey are purchased was freely discussed | in the brokerage houses herc today. Washington brokers consider marks in a general way as an effort to protect the reputation of the stock ex- | change in case some of these issues should later break severely. It has always been a rule that cheap stocks should be carefully investigated | to see just why they are so low priced. As one broker said today, there is al- ways a reason why a stock is selling at $1 or $2 a share. As far as could be seen at the opening today, Prgsi- dent Gay's words of caution had no ef- fect on quotations.
