OFFICER’S SUICIDE IS LAID TO GRIEF Death of Fiancee Caused Lieut. Carson to Shoot Self, is Belief. BY the Associated Press. FORT SILL, Okla.., November 24— A military board of inquiry expressed the opinion yesterday that First Lieut. William L. Carson, a New York Re- serve officer, took his life because of the death of his flancee, whose name ‘was not learned. The board will hold formal inquiry tomorrow. Lieut. Carson’s riderless horse gal- loped to the post yesterday carrying in an Army dispatch case tied up to its saddle a note indicating the young officer took his life and a map showing location of his body. Officials found the body of the young officer on an artillery range 2 miles northwest of the post. He was shot in the temple and cluiched a .32-cali~ ber pistol in his right hand. His note made references to the flancee and was with a sentence, “I'm happler now than I ever was before.” A note asked a friend, Lieut. L. H. Cornaby, to are range cremation of the body.
