AlSALd STOCKS EDGEUP 1 BOND DATA FILED Underwriters of $350,000 Refunding Program. BY EDWARD C. STONE. Folger, Nolan & Co, investment firm i the American Security Build- ing, is underwriting an issue of $350,- 000 4Y; per cent Chevy Chase Club first mortgage bonds, due January 1, 1957. The registration statement cov- ering the proposed new issue has just been filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The proceeds from the sale of the new bonds will be used to retire a total of $341,000 outstanding 5% per cent 50-year first mortgage Chevy Chase Club bonds, called for redemp- tion on January 1, at 102 and accrued interest. The purpose of the new issue is in line with refunding operations being carried on all over the country, in which high-yield bonds are called in and new bonds put out at a lower rate of interest. The registration statement furnishes the Securities and Exchange Commission with complete information regarding the Chevy Chase Club property and includes many other pertinent facts. The present 5!2 per cent Chevy| Chase Club bonds have been listed on the Washington Stock Exchange ! for several years. They have sold this year at 1063;. Latest quotations show a bid of 102, same as the redemption price. The new bonds are expected to come on the market in about a month, pos- sibly a little sooner, it was stated in the financial district today. They will be listed later on the Washington Ex- change. Lanston Earnings Mount. J. Thilman Hendrick of Washing- ton, chairman of the board of direc- tors of the Lanston Monotype Corp., speaking informally of the big mono- type concern’s business during the past year, stated today that business | has shown improvement in every month so far in 1936 over the corre- | sponding months in 1935. There is | every indication that this monthly | improvement will continue during the | remainder of the company’s fiscal year which ends in February, he added. The business improvement has va- ried in different months, but in some instances has been substantial. Lans- | ton is keeping right up with the times | in all new developments, just as the | corporation has done for many years. | The stock is listed on the Washington | Exchange and has sold above 91 dur- ing the present year. It started out | in 1936 at 80. The stock sold the other day at 90. Chairman Hendrick is a former Dis- trict commissioner, had enjoyed very broad business experience and is at present a partner in the brokerage | firm of W. B. Hibbs & Co. He has| reason to feel proud of the dividend | record made by Lanston during the depression and the return to good | times. Gives Up Executive Work. Frederick W. Doolittle, vice pm- dent of the North American Co. and | an officer and director in a number of its subsidiaries, has announced his retirement from executive work on December 1, although he will remain a director in the North American Co. He is a director in the Potomac Elec- tric Power Co., the Washington Rail- way & Electric Co. and the Capital Transit Co. and has been well known here for many years. Mr. Doolittle was formerly a mem- |~ ber of the engineering faculties of the Universities of Illinois, Colorado and Wisconsin. He assisted in the de- velopment of the technical work of the Public Utilities Commission of Wisconsin shortly after its organi- ration and of the first public utility commission in Illinois. From 1914 to 1916 he was the director of the Bureau of Fare Research of the American Electric Railway Association and from 1916 to 1923 was consulting engineer for Wisconsin subsidiaries of the North American Co. and for other electric utilities and railroads. Since 1823 he has been vice presi- dent and a director of the North American@Co. and an officer and director of subsidiary and affiliated eompanies. Mr. Doolittle is a member of the American Society of Civil Engi- neers and of other engineering and scientific societies and author of a text book, “Cost of Urban Transpor- tation Service,” and of numerous technical articles. Credit Man Views Outlook. Here are some of the comments gade by Henry H. Heimann, execu- tive manager of the National Associa- tion of Credit Men, in his monthly review: “There will be no monetary infla- tion during the next four years. Gov- ernment income in two years’ time should approach Government outgo. “The next two months may see the larnest distribution of dividend checks in the history of the country. “The Securities and Exchange Com- mission is here to stay, for the protec- tion of minority stockholders, smaller businesses and the public against speculative activities. Of great interest to the Washington Association was his forecast ,of the best holiday trade since 1929, as re- ported in yesterday’s Star. 9% Adams Exp (a20¢). 17% Adams Millis(a13) 22% Address’grapb( 1) 1% Advance Rumley... 58 Alr Reduction (11). 2 Air-Way Elec Appli 13 Alaska Jun (160s). 2% Alleg Corp (d)... .. 60 54% 27 Alleg prof (d). % 267 Alleg Steel (al1.40)-. 245 157 Allled Chem (6) 34 23 Allled Mills (IIOI). 20% 6% Allled Stores 89 69 Allied Stores pf (5) 35% Allis-Chalm (11%). BY VICTOR EUBANK, Associated Press Financial Writer, NEW YORK, November 24 —Edging over into a recovery zone, the stock market today quietly retrieved frac- tions to around 2 points of its yes- terday’s losses. Further business optimism, com- bined with less apprehension over the foreign outlook, helped to bring in sup- port for many of the leaders. It was not a one-way push, however, and there was an assortment of declines at the close. Transfers were about 1.- 800,000 shares. ¢ The list gave its best performance at the opening, when overnight orders pushed the ticker tape for a few min- | uates. ‘The volume began to dwindle there- after and light selling cropped up in several departments. Numerous fa- vorites near the final period had sub- stantially reduced or canceled initial gains. Buying in the steels, aircrafts and amusements then appeared and led to an upswing at the finish. Shell Union Oil wiped out arrear: on its preference shares and resumed | dividends on the common. Both is- sues were up as much as 2 points.
