Month ago- (Comptled by the Associated Press) By the Assoctatea Press. NEW YORK, November 24.—The bond market rested on firmer ground today as a result of improved support in various corporate liens. Early price movements Were un- even in spite of the prevalence of rallying tendencies. Some of the in- dustrial convertibles made up half or more of yesterday’s sharp declines, but in a few spots weakness per- sisted. One of these was Chesapeake Corp. 8s of 1947, which dropped more than 8 points. Selling was attributed to the death of O. P. Van Sweringen. Chesapeake Corp. is one of the prin- cipal holding companies which bind the so-called “Van Sweringen em- pire.” Bonds of some of the other units were unaffected, however, those of Alleghany Corp., another Van Sweringen holding unit showed some early gains. United States Governments slid a little lower as traders considered the scope of the Treasury financing pro- gram for December and prospects for a further boost in the reserve require- ments of banks as a step toward low- ering their excess reserves. —_— DIVIDENDS ANNOUNCED NEW YORK.
