Research in welding affecting many flelds of construction will be reported at the seventeenth meeting of the American Welding Soclety, which, it is announced, will be held in Cleve- land, Ohio, October 19-23. Six hun- dred industrial executives, engineers and research workers will participate. Welding and its related methods for eutting metals have developed with astonishing rapidity in the past few years, according to Prof. Comfort A. LEESBURG, Va, October 3.—The leasing by the Chesapeake and Po- tomac Telephone Co. of & portion of the Plaster Bullding, southeast corner of King and Loudoun streets, and plans for improving the telephone sys- tem here were announced today by H. G. Breckenridge, district manager. Improvements contemplate the com- mon battery system, by which sub- scribers in Leesburg will be able to signal the central office by merely lifting the receiver off the hook, in- stead of turning s magneto generator handle, as is DOW necessary, Brecken- ridge said. All of the local offices of the sys- tem will be housed in the new quar- ters, including the switchboard and operating staff now quartered in the Loudoun National Bank Building, and the clerical force, now housed in the Orr Building on West Market street, the manager said. Switchboard and other equipment to be moved into the Plaster Building will be entirely new, Breckenridge sald.
