By the ssociated Press. NEW YORK, December 9.— The world price of bar silver dropped 3 of a cent to 64% cents an ounce in New York today, the first change tn the price since August. The drop followed a sag in '.he London market and reduced the price for foreign metal for commercial use in New York to the lowest level since April 10, last, when it was on its way up to the peak of recent years of 81 cents, reached in last April's flurry of speculation. The 64%-cent level, however, does not affect domestic mines, which may still sell their metal to the United States Treasury at 77.57 cents an ounce, the buying rate which has been in effect since last Spring. The London price sagged 7-16 of a penny to 283 pence, equivalent to | 63.86 cents an ounce at New York, at the current rate of exchange. Silver dealers in New York at-| tributed the sag in price to Far East- emn selling, possibly due to the efforts | of the Chinese Nationalist govern- | ment to nationalize the metal and place China on asmanaged currency | allied to sterling. They said the United States Treas- ury evidently was unwilling to take all the foreign metal offered, to sup- port the price. — NEW YORK BANK STOCKS NEW YORK.
