Acker, 76, retired chief clerk of the Interior Department, who died Sat- urday at his home, 1317 Harvard street, will be held tomorrow at 2 pm in the Hines funeral home, 2901 Four- teenth street, Rev. MENDEL, YALE PROFESSOR, EXPIRES Authority on Study of Nutrition Succumbs to Heart Ail- ment. By the Associated Press. NEW HAVEN, Conn., December 9 —Dr.’ Lafayette B. Mendel, sterling! professor of physiological chemistry at Yale and an outstanding authority on the study of nutrition, died early today at his home here after an illness of 18 months. He had been suffering from a heart ailment. Dr. Mendel's wife died less than a month ago. A pioneer in his field, the professor was born February 5, 1872, in Delhi, N. Y. He received the degree of Ph. D. at Yale in 1893 and joined the university faculty the following year, giving in- struction in physiological chemistry and physiology. He was given a pro- |of the Governing Board of Sheffield Sciennflc Institute. | He also served on the graduate school faculty and in 1824 was ap- pointed chairman of the department of physiological science.
