FASTER PACE § AT STEEL PLANTS Iron Age Estimates Ingot Production at 57 Per Cent of Capacity. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, December 4—Steel production continues to expand, in spite of the absence of a broad advance in the prices of finished products, Iron Age stated today in its weekly review. Ingot production was placed at 57 per cent of capacity, compared with 56 per cent in the previous week This output level, Iron Age declared, is the highest since the third week in June, 1934, when production was sharply stimulated by forward cover- ing prior to an increase in code prices. “Anticipatory buying,” the review commented, “may have helped swell current tonnage, though the fact that operations have continued to expand following reaffirmation of prices, sug- gests that protective commitments were not heavy. “Pressure for deliveries of finished steel on order has been relieved, but few buyers have ordered shipments proach of the inventory period. “In the case of sheet steel the speci- fications of the leading mills have in- creased rather than declined. “The only price changes on finished steel that survived the last-minute col- lapse of the general advance scheduled for a week ago are increases of $1 a ton on track bolts, $4 a ton on track a ton on cold-finished bars.” B [HIGHER FRENCH RATE CHECKS GOLD OUTFLOW | By the Associated Press. 4 2% 3 327% 54 | 135% 1% 19% 2 i 1% 5% | # 25% 9% 1, e 124 3 9% 1% 72 25 40 9% 16% '{B‘A 110 11 5% 4%, 2914 105% 421 10' 4y | { | Steson (J B) 1 17% 9y, 30% 18% 17 3% T % 11% 1% 1 4% 1% 1% 1% 12508126%12414125% 408305 303 3805 1 19% 19% 19% 5 % 21% 11% 92 | statement of the Bank of France will show about 3,000,000,000 francs’ (about | $197,700,000) worth of withdrawn from it in the week ended ovember 28.
