Total net income of the Capital Mransit Co. in October dropped to $23,092.36 in comparison with $90,- 238.92 in October, 1934, a decrease of $67,146.56 or 74 per cent, according to ‘the monthly statement just filed with the Public Utilities Commission. It was the last of the utility reports to be filed with the commission covering October returns. Operating revenues totaled $839,- 606.53, a gain of $76,312.85, or 10 per cent. At the same time operating ex- penses increased $110,415.32, or 21 per cent over October, 1934. The item of depreciation stood at $77,- 558.36 against only $49.058.59 in the same month last year, an increase of $28.499.77, or 58 per cent. Operating expenses, taxes and de- preciation combined required $769,- 155.48 against $631,491.11 a vear ago, an increase of $137.664.37, leaving a net operating income for October of $70.451.05 in comparison with $131.- 80257, & shrinkage of $61,350.52, or 46 per cent. Non-operating income also was slightly lower, reducing gross. The sharp tumble in net earnings was due chiefly to the higher operat- ing expenses. Recent wage increases are included and the number of em- ployes is much larger than a vear ago. The increase in the amount of depreciation allowed also reduced net earnings by a substantial sum. Two items in the October report have changed greatly. Taking the street cars off Connecticut avenues has re- duced the amount of electricity used materially while the gasoline bill has | Jjumped to a much larger figure in the bus expense column. However, this has little to do with final net returns. High. Low. k2 Acme Steel (t2)___. 2 69 18% 173 2% 20% 3% 14% 14 nv. 17'{ 9 5% 370 22% L) 38% 7% 5T% 473 Express.... The lack of volume on the advance, at the same time, was conducive tq caution among some brokerage cuse tomers. An upturn in scattered metal stocks was attributed to a mild re- vival of imflationary psychology ine spired by renewed warnings concerns ing huge excess bank reserves. 6': Am Sugar pf (7) Am Tel & Tel (9)... 2 Am Tobacco (5) .
