TUGWELL FORUM SPEAKER TONIGHT Resettlement Program Will Be Topic on Nation-Wide Chain of N. B. C. EXFORD G. TUGWELL, un- dersecretary of agriculture in charge of the administration’s resettlement program, will discuss his activities during the Na- tional Radio Forum tonight over WRC and a coast-to-coast network of other National Broadcasting Co. stations. The forum, arranged by The Wash- ington Star, will be broadcast from 10:30 to 11 o'clock. ‘Tugwell has at his command many millions of dollars for the projects now planned. His program covers a wide fleld. He took over among other things the Subsistence Homestead Corp., which originally was under Secretary of Interior Ickes. One of the most colorful figures in the Roosevelt administration, Tugwell has been regarded as a leader in the President’s “brain trust.” In recent weeks he has been under fire from a number of sources. * ok ok ¥ BOB BURNS is a full-fledged radio | star now. B. C. programs beginning December 20. LR ANOTHER international _rebroad- cast scheduled by N. B. C. will come from Dresden Saturday at 3 pm. It will be a program of folk songs by miners of Saxony from the Hartz Mountains. The songs will be the ancient Saxon songs which have come down through generations and are still sung at festivals and social gatherings of the miners, * & % OHN L. The cost of making scenery for stage plays, as well as that of transporting it from one place of performance to another, is being overcome by dispens- ing with it entirely. The necessary scenery is made by the use of a sys- tem of lantern slides made especially for the purpose. THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C, MONDAY, DECEMBER 2, 1935. SEATTLE, December 2 (#).—Ex- proof,” & new plane for the Navy, de- | change of a house for a postage stamp signed for service with battleships and cruisers of the fleet and known officially as 8OC-1—scout observation, Curtiss —has passed its grueling tests, the Navy Department has announced. One hundred and thirty- five of these planes, costing $2,752,705, are to be completed, under the con- tract, by next July. The new ships are being constructed by the Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Co. in Buffalo, N. Y., and are the result of a competition held by the Navy Department. Marked advances in design are reg- istered, officials asserted. Cockpits are inclosed by a new type of cabin, affording greater protection to the crew and improving the visibility, which is vital in scouting and observa- tion work. This protection is calcu- lated to result in decreased fatigue during long flights. The SOC-1 is designed primarily as a seaplane for catapulting from ships at sea, although wheel-type landing gear is provided for training opera- tions ashore. A greater safety factor is incorporated in the ship by the “full automatic wing slots,” which are credited with being particularly val- uable during adverse weather condi- tions. Further, officials said that the steep gliding angle will permit land- ing in the high seas with less danger CarrraL’s Rapio PROGRaMs Monday, December 2. (Copyright, 1935) Eastern Standard Time.
